The Sol -> Pearl "connection"

Post by Filament »

I "get" how to get back (from Sol).

I'm assuming this trip could be "bidirectional."

Without spending an entire day (in REAL time) jumping with my Mantis drive - doing it the "hard way" - can someone enlighten me regarding which corner on "Pearl Street" I need to stand, to catch the bus the other direction to Sol via U2U? :D

Thanks!

Hi, Fil,

Why would you assume that the trip must be bidirectional?

The bus to another town surely comes back.

It's just another corner, or street, in the town - for arrival.

As an example, the nebulae in Sapphire, etc.

It will take me some time, but armed with a Mantis and a Deploy Constructor, I'll certainly find out! :P

 Let us know if you find a quick route to Sol from within a gated star system. 'Cause, if there is one, nobody has mentioned it in the last couple of years.

Hmmm, there may or may not be another way to Sol, quicker than the Riftspace Wormhole... but really... who knows :P

Very true, Marvin.

I've pored all over these threads, and never seen a 'quick n easy' Sol trip post. :D

Great segue...

Not all BH's are 'jumpable' right? I'm struggling with one in Wolfspace that may not go anywhere. I'm subtracting and adding 2500 to -50000 "Z" and making a nice (brief) incandescence...lol!

Yea... The BH in Wolf is indeed just a BH with no special traits other than tearing your ship apart. Sorry to inform :P

What's that old adage about "...and expecting different results?" :P

Lol, different results can happen from time to time, indeed. Wolf is a favorite system of mine btw!

Not sure about the trip to Sol, think that's just the long trip that it is. But for the return, there could be a (much) quicker way, right in front of you... ;)

Hi and welcome Filament.

There is a "quick" way to Sol but it requires a bit of flying in open space as well.

SPOILER WARNING!
You can see it here: http://www.evochron.junholt.se/systems/evochron10k.htm
The purple dot/coords will show you the way!

Have fun!;)

 I wouldn't call it a quick way. It's just a different route ... like Columbus going west to get to the Orient.

Why would you assume there's a way back? You might find out that going down stream is often times a lot easier than up stream. Especially if you have to cross one of them waterfalls called "wormholes".

Somehow, tacking against the tradewinds for thousands of miles (think: constant zig-zags) doesn't sound like a "good time" to me! :P He would've been better off going the 'Med' route - and on thru/around.

Oh, yeah...no AAA maps back then.... and being a decent cartographer could get you burned-at-the-stake as a heretic, anyway...

I gotcha' SeeJay.

Just head to Orion (El Paso) - then trek across the desert to Bakersfield. Then I'll hop the regional flights to Minneapolis and then on to Mexico City! ;)

Halfway across the desert now.... :)

I'm at the Bakersfield Apt. with 577 of 1200 gal./L. (depending on country of origin measures) of fuel remaining.
No Deploy needed (yet)

I hope this doesn't cause a rift between us? :P
