Don't know how many of you played Freelancer in the past, but I was one of them; even was part of a couple of modding teams. I really loved the game.
Came across this video today. I knew there were still a couple of mods around, some of them quite popular even, but it seems that some people are still making serious efforts to keep the game interesting and as close to today's standards as they can. Although I don't play Freelancer anymore, I really liked what the designers of the Unbalanced mod put together. Although a lot of the elements seen in this vid were already designed by other modders for their own mods (especially FLAK88), I think that graphically this looks pretty impressive for a game that old, running on that engine.
dabbled and enjoyed but I was looking for more of a sandbox - I did enjoy the story-lines in the walk-through though. This looks visually very impressive, though I suspect I wouldn't get to see much of it in the split second or so I survived
I hope Vice doesn't see it - I don't want him to get ideas about hostiles using double-Excalibur packs with all sixteen launched at the same time!!

I can't help to think how this mod would be with a bunch of custom designed ships in it... Along with the graphical and other enhancements of this mod, it would be a whole new Freelancer!

I went on a space sim / RTS game binge a couple of years ago and picked up Freeelancer. It was fun but I was exploring all the old space stuff and only played for a few months. (I had to get away from military strategy and sims for a while)
I also bought Independence War 2 and Freespace. Those were fun too for a while. I also picked up the freebie Pioneer and another whose name escapes me now. Pioneer was fun but the funny looking station occupants were annoying.
I also jumped on Homeworld 1 and 2 which I like a lot ... still do even though the space is so limited. I downloaded the latest HW2 Complex 8 mod and there's a 9 in the works. When I step away from EM that's the game I play. I also got into Hegemonia for a while but its not as polished as HW2 (imho) plus its not being updated.
To say the least, EM has held my interest longer than any of the other sims. I never had Wing Commander but I've heard it was awesome so when the new version comes out I may have to try it.
Finally, the only other "space" game I played was Mechwarrior. I played all version till I got carpal tunnel. I still load it up and play through all campaigns just for fun.
... sorry for the long post ... its lunch and I had to get away from work for a minute ... plus I type fast ... a curse it is.
