I'd say many of us here owe our interest in Evochron/Space sims to Chris Roberts and it's great to see he has a new project in the works. Exciting times for the genre!
Didn't see it mentioned anywhere so just thought i'd share.
Wing Commander and the space combat genre made me fall in love for pc gaming and I'm glad Chris Roberts is returning to his roots. If you watch the trailer you can find some classic wing commander references sprinkled in lol. The visuals especially.during the cockpit sequences are absolutely breathtaking. I'll be keeping a close eye on this. Long live wing commander and the space sim genre!:)

Thanks for sharing. I think there is a new trend on space sims coming back. Starlight Inception on Kickstarter then Chris Roberts' new game. The only bad news is I fear that you will need an high-end pc like in the old days for this.

Nah the expansion will come out much sooner. Do make sure to sign up on his site for free founder access. I think Wing Commander III, the one with Mark Hamil, is the best story telling in a flight game I've ever seen.
The characters were amazingly written. I still remember the black woman that was talented but had an attitude. The fat slob who was pretty much an ace but would grab his crotch when you considered him for a mission, the other ace that comes in later and tries to show you up, and the fluffy kitty that was to Wing Commander III as Worf was to Star Trek. I just remember him being a pretty bad pilot.
but yeah I can't wait to see what he has in store either.
Indeed thanks for bringing this up! This is just incredibly exciting:- Chris Roberts, the daddy of space sims is having another go at it. The vids on the site you put up look really promising, I can't wait to try out a demo. Awesome!!!
Edit:
I'm just reading the info on the site now. With 10K polygons for a character, 30K for a vehicle and even 7 Million (!) for the Space Carrier, you will have unparalleled detail. But you will also need a B E A S T of a graphics card to render all those polygons, even more so when you're playing online and a lot of those 30K polygon-ships are flying around in your screen.
For most of us, with a limited budget, I'm afraid this means bad news. Better start saving!

If you help Chris out with donations to this project you can get access to the Alpha and Beta versions of the game as well as the full game when finished and depending on the amount you donate you can also get a ship, credits and a membership card for the game.
It does look absolutely stunning and it will be out in 2014 so who knows what kind of hardware there is on the market to run this game.
I tried to see the various videos on the site but nothing seemed to work - is it just me, a strange player needed or a glitch?
It sounds strange that the more you pledge the longer you wait for your stuff!

buying any game unless I know my rig can handle it.
That's why I want a demo.
I might update my rig in a near future, but you
never know if my cash is needed elsewhere.
A demo will be released, I am pretty sure.
But it's not going to be released for another 2 years so worrying about it now is a tad premature.
Also you don't know what hardware support they will code the game on since we have no idea what sort of hardware we have in 2 years.
By 2014 we might have 8-12 gigabyte graphics cards for all we know.
From what I seen in the video's on the site this game is going to be awsome and I cannot wait to play it.
I am also not sure if my current monster PC can handle that game but we will see, for now all the games I do play I am able to crank up the graphics setting all the way to max without any problems so for now I am not worried at all.

Only the first pledge you get right away since it's just a title, all the other stuff you get when the game arrives in Nov 2014.
Makes sense for the community pledge @$10! But the next two ($30 and $40) pledge levels quote delivery for Christmas 2012 and the pledges are for a ship and finished game . . .
In terms of kit, I'm afraid I can't afford (or do I want) to go down the "must have the latest, biggest and best and fastest kit so that I can play a game" route. My PC's last 5 years or more before I find that I can't do what I want to do and buy another one - my present kit cost me £1200 two years ago and will have to last a loooong time.
Still - I'm not a games player really (with the exception of Evochron and the Japanese game of "Go") but Chris's new game does sound interesting if it is a proper sandbox game! Still who knows what will be in two years time! (and who knows that Evochron will look like in two years time!)

Well, I am certain that even if you don't pledge you can get the biggest badest ship in the universe, you just have to earn it in game, wich is more in my ally anyway.
I will pledge the 10$ to help Chris out with his endevours and buy the game when it's released and work my way up the ranks as the game intended.
I've been looking on their site for a while now, and I can't find their e-mail address. I've tried to register, but their site hasn't sent me an e-mail to validate my stuff so I can post something on their forum.
Does anyone know their e-mail? I want to ask them a few questions so I can do an article on this game for my TRH site. Also I'm not OK with giving them my money if I can't contact them.

The intro sounds like they are in the process of rebuilding this site - I'll try again in a few days (though it does say that the pledge time runs out in 30 days).

I had the same issue and had to contact their web admin. If you're still having a problem registering let me know and I'll send his e-mail address via U2U.
Also I'm pretty sure that the Christmas 2012 release is for the Alpha version of the game. I would not expect much from the alpha unless you're willing to fill out bug reports, have limited content, and get a character wipe. Betas are usually late stage near release testing that's half polished.

That's why I'm grateful that less demanding games like Evochron exist. And I'm really disappointed that there is still no seamless planetary landings in Chris Roberts' next game. That should be mandatory !

I had the same issue. Reading some of the info on the site, it would seem they have had some technical difficulty quite recently, which probably have something to do with that.
I found the following public email address: [email protected], which I also used myself to send them an email about my registration issue. Still awaiting reply though.
Good luck!

Thanks. I am going to ask them who their game will differ from EVE and this one, if they will keep people from using alts, what is the specs required to run this game both on full out and low settings, what's up with the citizens cards, what is the average cost of things in the game, if you can make real money or just in game money by making ships, is the game going to be on Windows Mac and Linux, how long will they keep the profiles when someone stops playing, are mods allow to play the game (in eve they are and they cheat), will this be a true sandbox (rules and all like this game), what type of ratio of the game is walking around, and flying, can you actually walk around in your ship (like if your mining or what not), can someone play this game with just a regular keyboard and mouse, why is the pledge so short when this game is going to take so long to make, can we visit earth, can we travel to another galaxy, can we modify stars and planets, will stars blow up, will there be black holes, can the ships go on planets, will there be cities if you can go on planets, if there is can I walk around and interact with everything in the cities, how much of the game will be filler (something there that you can't interact with or doesn't matter, for example a crowd of people for visual reasons), can I do basic human interactions with objects (sit, pick up, eat, drink, etc), if I damage an area will the damage stay there the next time I come back (for example, if I shoot the wall of the inside of a station will the shots stay in the wall a year from now or will the wall heal itself shortly), can I damage things like stations, will there be cops in the game (for example if you damage a station the cops will try to do something), will the cops try to auto kill you or arrest you, if I damage a station will I see a NPC come out and fix the damage, can I play any of this game on my mobile device or will this game have some attachment to mobile devices, how often will we get new missions that doesn't require other people, can we take over an area of space and rename planets, can we make missions, and so on.
The site is working now and I sent them an e-mail. I asked them this list of questions.
How does your game will differ from EVE and Evochron Mercenary?
Will you keep people from using alts like on EVE Online?
What is the specs required to run this game both on full out and low settings?
What is up with the citizens cards?
What is the average cost of things in the game?
Can a player make real money or just in game money by making ships?
Is the game going to be on Windows, Mac, and Linux?
How long will you keep the profiles when someone stops playing?
Are moderators allow to play the game (in eve they are and they cheat)?
Will this be a true sandbox (rules and all)?
What type of ratio of the game is walking around and flying?
Can you actually walk around in your ship (like if your mining or what not)?
Can someone play this game with just a regular keyboard and mouse?
Why is the pledge so short when this game is going to take so long to make?
Can we visit earth?
Can we travel to another galaxy?
Can we modify stars and planets?
Will stars blow up like in the real world?
Will there be black holes?
Can the ships go on planets?
Will there be cities if you can go on planets?
If there is, can I walk around and interact with everything in the cities?
How much of the game will be filler (something there that you can't interact with or doesn't matter, for example a crowd of people for visual reasons)?
Can I do basic human interactions with objects (sit, pick up, eat, drink, etc)?
If I damage an area will the damage stay there the next time I come back (for example, if I shoot the wall of the inside of a station, will the shots stay in the wall a year from now or will the wall heal itself shortly)?
Can I damage things like stations?
Will there be cops in the game (for example if you damage a station the cops will try to do something)?
Will the cops try to auto kill you or arrest you?
If I damage a station, will I see a NPC come out and fix the damage?
Can I play any of this game on my mobile device or will this game have some attachment to mobile devices?
How often will we get new missions that doesn't require other people?
Can we take over an area of space and rename planets?
Can we make missions?
Will this game have spies?
Can accounts be put on hold?
Will the game have some refer program?
Will all MP data transfer toward a SP mode?
Where will my game data be stored?
Is it possible this game can be uploaded to consoles one day?
Will there be hand to hand combat?
How detail will the charter maker be?
Will the game relate to real life?
Will there be a market like EVE? (A player driven market)
Will this game be on one or many servers?
How advance will the AI be in fighting, convo, and reacting toward what is going on?
Can some ships have multiple people or AI commanding them?
If so, can people walk around the ship while things are going on outside?
If so, can people switch jobs in the ship?
If so, does the captain have to OK it? (I figure if it's the military they would, but if it's pretty much anything else then anyone can switch spots)
If multiple people can go in a ship, can we kidnap other players or AI?
Watching your video you said something about when people first join they have to be in the military. Can they stay in or get back in?
Will there be a taxi service?
Can I fly passengers around (AI and/or human)?
Will there be personal rooms on ships and stations?
If so, can I do whatever to mine? Do I have to pay rent if it's on someone else ship or on a station?
Will the game have an ingame browser?
Do I have to pay rent if I keep my ship in a station?
If so, can I just buy a spot and buy a room in a station?
How many people can fit in a room?
How many people can fit in a ship?
Can multiple people own a ship, room, and spot in a station or on a planet?
Will there be kids in the game? (I've notice in most games there is only adults and no kids. This makes some games unrealistic. It is even more unrealistic if there is no kids in a game like this game. Some countries and groups use kids to fight their battles so the kids are a war tactic. I'm sure something like this would be happening if in a universe like EVE or this game)
Will there be a bounty system?
If so, how will it be set up? (Everyone knows EVE Online bounty system is broken)
What happens if you die?
Can you custom a ship?
If so, can you custom the colors of the inside and out?
If you can custom a ship and have multiple people running a ship, can you pick where which stations go? (Like can you make it where the nav is moved from the front to the back)
Can you buy a station?
If so, can you make it into a casino? Can you rent out rooms? Can you put shops in the station and make money from that?
Will fake/real drugs be in the game? (Beer and what not included)
Will there be pets in the game (pet drone, dog, cat, fish, etc)?
Will there be a news team like in mass effect in this game?
If so, can you control them (like tell them to go after XYZ and/or say lies about them)?
Can people become political officials in the game? (Like if there is a democ, monarc, etc zones. can people be elected or take over those zones)
Can we make a AI mafia?
Can we make a human Mafia?
Can we make a human cop force?
If so, can someone become an undercover cop?
If we get our own rooms, can I watch hulu/netflix/youtube/ my own stuff on the TV or whatever is in the rooms?
If so, will others see it?
If there will be kids, can we adopt?
If so, could we have them do basic task to keep up a ship, money, or whatever? Will we see them grow up? Can we kill them (some people will try)? Will there be schools? If they don't go to school will they get in trouble? Would you get calls from them every so often when you're away like in the real world? (It could be cool to get a message once in awhile on your mobile device to get a message from your virtual kid)
If we can have a pet can we kill it? (In the beta a lot of people try this on the newer Fable game)
If we can adopt a kid, can we make one like in Fable? Can we clone our self?
Can you get with some AI in the game (have a 1 night thing or a relationship like fabel)? Can real life married/whatever people show they are in a relationship in the game?
Will there be something making you good vs evil like in Fable and the new Star Wars MMO?
Will the skill levels keep going even when you are not playing?
Will there be an AI holographic person talking to you out through your game play? (Kinda like Halo)
If so, will the AI keep up things? Will it learn from me and change how it acts depending on who I am? Will it send me notifications to my real life phone? will there be voice commands? If so, can I give the voice commands remote via my phone?
