A New Game Just Released - Faster Than Light

Hi Fellow Space pilots,

I am always in support of indie developers and wanted to share this game, just released on September 14th.

What is FTL?

FTL is a spaceship simulation roguelike-like. Its aim is to recreate the atmosphere of running a spaceship exploring the galaxy (like Firefly/Star Trek/BSG etc.) In any given episode of those classic shows, the captain is always yelling â€œReroute power to shields!â€� or giving commands to the engineer now that their Warp Core is on fire. We wanted that experience, as opposed to the â€œdog fighting in spaceâ€� that most videogames focus on. We wanted a game where we had to manage the crew, fix the engines, reroute power to shields, target the enemy life support, and then figure out how to repel the boarders that just transported over!

There is a lot of buzz about this game, where 2 Indie developers created a game that has never been done quite like this before.

This game is receiving high reviews and winning awards and fans.

The game cost $9.00 right now, you can get the DRM Free Download and a steam key.

I bought mine and the adventures remind me of Firefly and Star Trek all wrapped up in one.

if anyone has it, what are your thoughts?

I saw this game some days ago, seems very interesting.
I want to wait a little bit more to see more.
Another game is hard to fit in my free time.

If you could save mid-game, then you might decide to play while taking Mercenary's twenty-minute trip to Sol. Or a much longer voyage in search for new star systems. Sort of like playing Tic-Tac-Toe while your opponent is deciding on his move in chess.

I'm coming late to the party here...but I just want to add my 2 cents. FTL is freaking awesome. I've always had dreams of shepherding a bit cap ship through combat, and this game scratches that itch. Sure it's only 2D...but in this case it is charming and works really well.

I thought I'd be bugged by not being able to save...but it really isn't too bad. The cool part is that you can name your crew and ship! Way cool!

Actually, you can save. Hitting the escape key brings up a menu that will allow you to do so--though, the option to do so will be greyed out if your ship is in imminent danger (asteroid field, enemy attack, etc).

Also...you can't go reload if you die. Dead is dead. I am not usually a fan of 'dead is dead' gameplay, but here it works.

I can't upload a link to it here because a mod just told me to not load a cheat video on this forum.

Honestly...you can beat the game without using cheats. I made it to the end with justa a low level cruiser.

Its a great game...simple, but not easy.

But it feels so right lol. I am going to upload a more detail video on how you can cheat. I've modify everything from the hull to the power bars. I didn't get into these things in the last set of videos I did because the walk through was taking too long. In fact, I edited out a good 15-25 min out of the walk through because traveling was redundant.

It's too random. The game is fun, and it is possible to beat the game. But you have to have some luck on your side if you are not going to cheat.

Anyways, without cheating I got all the way up to the end, but for me it wasn't fun if I had to worry about my ship blowing up every possible move I made.

The reason is contained in Forum rule #3 below. This applies to to the forum not just Vice's games.

3 - Do not solicit for registration keys or illegal copies of games. Piracy (software theft) of any kind is not allowed on this forum. Posting about cracking/reverse engineering games (including media and binary files) or cheating is not allowed on this forum.
