novideo.txt not working as intended

Post by EN4CER »

To skip the intro movie to the game, create a text file with the name novideo.txt in the same folder as the EXE. It can contain any value.
I've tried putting several values in the file as well as leaving it blank. I've double checked the file name. I installed using Steam. The installation is still in the default subdirectories:

C:\\Games\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\evochron mercenary

I am using a direct shortcut that bypasses the Steam launcher in order to play. Using the Steam yields the same result.

Any ideas on this?

Sometimes, the mistake of adding a '.txt' extension is done in addition to the .txt added by notepad, so the resulting filename winds up being novideo.txt.txt instead of just novideo.txt. If that checks out, just make sure there aren't any spaces in the filename or anything. Then when it's placed in the same launch folder as the game is installed in, it should work.

Confirmed there is no extra .txt to the file name. Base file name is novideo with a hidden extension of .txt. Not a big deal at all but the feature is not working as intended.

Have you waited past the opening "Evochron Mercenary" text? The mod doesn't bypass the opening sequence entirely, it just displays additional text instead of loading the video. That has been my experience with it.

Maybe a screenshot of what is in the install folder might help us determine what is wrong. Also, maybe the game is being launched from a different folder than where the file is being placed (ie where the desktop icon is pointing to)?

Ahh I see. If that's the case then it is working as intended. I assumed it bypassed all of the intro videos.
