Hello. anothernewbieoutofnowhere.

I had a terrible time trying to find the planet in the last part of the Mercenary quest. How is it humanly possible? Anyways, when I finally manage to get back to hostileoverload, I wondered how am I going to get to hidy systems, or just systems that's really-really far away.

Exploration was my favorite activity in EVE. It really was. I grinded until I got covert-ops, looked into a few worm-holes and got a few good stories. I quit my mining corp, and lost interest in the game when there were no Exploration corps. It was 3 hours until subscription ended, anyways.

Now there's no exploration probes. I think I have everything I need, I just need to put my BFG's and equipment in some hanger. I have a Starmaster with a highly skilled science ops, and about 80 million. That's about it.

How do you get to uncharted systems? It's not like there is a super-secret zoom-out function. Or is it mandatory for a mod?

:o A question like this from a veteran explorer?! Well, be that as it may, the proscribed search pattern is (with Nav Map open and zoomed all the way out) to follow the instructions for maximum distance, work your way as described in the text until you reach said max distance, then jump six or seven sectors due south, turn around, fly back, jump another six or seven sectors south, turn back around ... continue until you spot the objective.

Hi gefer8, welcome to Evochron! Discovering uncharted planets in Evochron is no easy task... often involving donkey work as Marvin describes. However there are some exploration mods that work as tools (not spoilers) and help you to calculate locations of higher probability. Plus there have been some excellent guides written on exploration techniques. You can find this stuff for download at SeeJay's website: http://evochron.junholt.se/ Go to the downloads section, specifically Navdata Executable, Instructions, and MarvinInstructions. Also check out the Book of Hints.

I wouldn't call myself veteran. I just launched probes turned invisible a lot. (I mean, you could JUMP in cloak as covert ops. Can't get more stealthy then that.)

This game doesn't have probes. You can't zoom out very far. The quadrent map isn't 3D. You can actually land in planets. Pretty big difference.

Wait what text... I only found the planet by luck (Jump far away, look at Nav, jump far away, look a- hey! Rings!) It was my 6th attempt. I also had to figure out combat by myself :.(

 If you want to become a serious explorer, there are (as MCCON said) a couple really good tools. And, if you log on to one of the MP servers and ask around, you'll find that you don't need to learn combat by yourself ... others will be glad to help. Or at least answer your questions. Welcome aboard.
