Increasing systems tech level question

Post by Syrinx »

Hello all, another question from me again.

So I have been wondering if it is possible to get systems/sectors to have a higher than green tech level via building structures like the R&D place and such? Or is this the absolute cap?

I'm wondering more specifically in the Pearl/Oasis sector.

I only ask because there are hidden places that do not show up on the nav map..it stands to reason that there may be higher tech levels than the graphic shows when you go to the economic section in the quadrent map.

Any help clearing this up would be great.

Thanks

When you build substations, even in pearl or atlas, you'll have a better chance on getting the really hi tech stuff like mantis drives, anti missile systems, auto CM launchers, shield rechargers.

yes, substations will raise tech level for the main station.

So if I beef up my 'pick up' point with sub stations (using a shield with the deploy thingy so I don't get popped) it may get better stuff? That would be cool.

I've tested it out in Lost Rucher (trade station + 1 of each sub station in the same sector). I have not noticed any improvements besides having access to more ship frames as of yet. Is that due to some other limiting factors or just unlucky?

I've not seen any anti missile/auto CM/shield rechargers being sold as of yet. Could it be that it requires a 'build up' period before it kicks in to a higher gear so to speak? Or have I just chosen the wrong place to test it?

Increasing systems tech level question

You can increase a systems' tech level thru the construction of the appropriate supporting structures. Up to a point. The tech levels are fairly well set by system, whether "known" or off the map. For instance, Saphire is basically a C2/C3 level system, as an upward limit. One may build the support structures, and possibly raise the tech level to C4 there in Saph. Now Atlas on the other hand (a C5-level system), had Mantis drives available at one of the player-built trade stations last I checked (yesterday). Pearl, basically without any additional construction, has a very robust tech level, in the C5+ range. It may be possible to build and raise the tech level there in order to top out the availables list, to include Starmaster/Leviathan-class options for ships' chandlery. The question then arises of the necessity or the advisability of doing so. Once you build up a system (especially in MP-space), everyone else then has access to that tech. And rather obviously, it also has a profound effect on the economy in that system/area. The tech levels anywhere can not be raised any further than what is hard-wired into the game software. There are no "magic beans" here. Yet. ;)

OK I kind of understand where you are going with that. Now I am wondering where does one find out these 'C1-5+' levels and their relevance to the systems economy/potential sales?

If it would contain spoilers please just U2U me, this is the sort of thing I enjoy about games like this, working it out myself can just annoy me too much.

Don't think you, or anyone else for that matter, will find a roster/listing of what basic tech levels are for each system. Unless DaveK has gone off on a rounder...again. ;) Seriously though, the economy map is the nearest to finding what-is-where that I know of. Basically a guide to what may be available in those systems within a particular-colored economic/political unit area (Alliance vs Federtion). It does appear that there may be a correlation between the reputation and tech levels of a system, but I don't know how closely tied, or to what specific effect. Of the known Quadrant systems, system information (not specifically tech levels) is available under the F-3 inventory toggle/news console/system info (With the exception of a few). There is a system data file, as I recall, that is part of the software package, which may be accessed/read/printed out. That might be a start, not sure. Yep, annoyance/frustration levels aboundeth. Welcome to Evochron!

* On second thought, page 50 of the Hints/Tips/Tricks compendium has the basic available known system tech already documented.
