Is it possible to display the same nebula in the all systems even ones that have no nebulae? I want to add this cool back drop of the milky way galaxy to each system. It would be the same format Sol has for it's milky way background. I'm trying to get a sense of realism these days and the huge background nebulae our a bit much for me at times, pretty though.
So if I were able to find out how to set all the nebula display properties to the same as Sol it would work. Does anyone know how to do this?

Most of the backgrounds have a front and a back. IIRC, the Milky Way is one of two which are different ... it's a 360 degree file (the other one being the background for Andromeda). All backgrounds are defined in the universe file ... which is coded. Consequently, you can't change the definition, as specified by the file, for individual star systems. The best you could do would be to create a background of your own and duplicate it, giving it different names. But it would only be properly displayed in systems currently using the Milky Way background.

The plan is also for the revised customizing kit to include a small utility that will take a spherical texture map and convert it into a cube map that is compatible with the game's new background format. This way, you can put all of the details you want in a spherical map, then render it through the utility to produce the cube map needed for the game. There are also programs like SpaceScape ( http://alexcpeterson.com/spacescape ) that will create cube maps for you. Using those, you then just have to name the files the way the game needs them.
