I've finally completed a project I've been planning for ages. I've been spurred by the number of times I've seen comments about the lack of back story for the game, especially after the "Steam Revolution". There is a goodly amount of fan fiction out there about the Evochron Universe and it's inhabitants and the political machinations that have moulded it, but it's well hidden. As well as stories (short, very short and some incomplete) the_rami compiled a detailed history of Evochron from the invention of Fulcrum technology up to the present day
The project involved collecting everything I could track down, sorting the layout, editing of everything and preparing the "book". To whet your appetite the book is 275 pages long and in pdf format. It's a 3.5M download
If you see one of your stories in it and are unhappy with it being there or with the editing then please U2U me. If you have any stories or story fragments that you haven't got round to uploading, then again, please U2U me.
I collected this stuff because I found it enriched the game for me. When approaching a station I can visualise the people who live and work there, raising their families, living their lives. When I look at the contracts being offered or get I'm getting hammered by the Navy, I understand a bit more about the political and social history that created tensions between Alliance and Federation - tensions that still haven't fully subsided even in the face of the Vonari threat. When I'm hunting Vonari in a warzone I remember the three times they attempted to enslave humanity
I hope you find the same pleasure and enjoyment in the stories that I have had.
I also hope that it will ignite a new wave of "I'd like to try that" and "I must finish that story" and "Those logs and snippets I posted could be made into a short story I think"
As a community we owe a big debt of gratitude to the writers of these stories who have generously shared their vision and hard work with us.
Thanks are also owed to (mainly) Bravehart and several others - I plundered the "Screenshots" thread to illustrate the start of each story
All credit goes to the writers - all errors remaining can be blamed on me!
