News hinting to city / station in uncharted system?

Post by frontier204 »

Hello all,

I found 3 uncharted planets in single player, and the news for one of those planets talks about "Attacks against [spoiler censored] Energy have come from B.M.H., hunt begins".

Is that generated news random, or does it actually mean there's a way to complete contracts in that system without building my own trade station to get the contracts? The planet in the system didn't have a city (unless they're hidden).

Thanks

Vice would know for sure but I think you need to be docked to see and to accept contracts :)

If the planet you are at does not have a station or city (hidden or not), there might be another planet with city/cities or station in a different sector belonging to the same system!.....;)

Thanks for the replies.

That's also a possibility Maarschalk. I'm doing the I.M.G. quest that requires exploration and I'm starting to see how big sectors can be, and what may be lurking at the very edges of them... I may check that out if I come across something better than a C5 fulcrum drive.

Does anyone know the range of the ships' scanners looking for planets assuming you're in free space? I'd assume it's the size of the nav map fully zoomed out, although I'm not sure if the scanning range is a sphere or a cube.

 Zoomed all the way out, you won't see any targets in the border sectors (those running around the very edges of the map). To determine if you can see anything in a corner, one sector away from the border, you can make a simple test ... jump to a location which would put a planet inside the suspect sector: if you can see the planet on the map, then the range is cubical; if you can't, then it's probably spherical.

I have a related question, sorry for hijacking your post frontier:

Does a city in an uncharted planet always shows in your nav map from several sectors away, or you have to jump closer to the planet to be sure there's a city?

I find that sometimes I have to be much closer or select the planet and zoom in :)

I'm not talking about zooming in, i know how to do it. I'm talking about actually seeing the city in the planet. I've got the impression a couiple of times that zooming in a planet from a long distance didn't show any city, and when I got closer there it was. But I may be wrong, it was at the begining when I had just a couple of hours playing.

 I've found that, if you haven't been in the planet's sector at any time, you'll need to go there to check for cities.

Anti-Pirate Patrols are usually offered by the systems' Miner faction. Ace-kill missions are generally offered by the Navy faction. In both instances, I've always found it's best to be docked at the city, trade station, carrier, or constructor (whom/how ever built, "charted" or otherwise) whereon the contract is offered; to be the best location from which to aceed/commit to that requested action. (Phew). It should not matter whether the city/planet/system is "known" or not. Or, whether or not their "objets d'art" are revealed on "normal" sensors. Just like in all other "real estate" transactions, it's "Location, Location, Location". Would presume one knows the MTC/city planetary designators, in "charted" space. There are however, some really great "specials" out there. Ye jist haff ta find 'em.
