Bug Report: Black Hole eats Orion

Post by westernnomad »

Version 1.828
My miner, in haste, took a wrong turn out of Thuban and ended up in Orion. Everything appeared as it should on the map, but otherwise, nothing existed. It was as if a black hole had consumed every planet, station and even the stargate were gone.

This must be a bug.

I set the autopilot for Sapphire... fortunately I had already installed a deployment constructor so it took me a solid 3 to 5? hours of warping and refueling at my own fuel stations.

Yeah. Love the real time aspects of Evochron space travel, but it can get nerve wracking in situations like this.

Was this in SP or MP? Did you try to go to Orion again to see if the glitch can be duplicated?:o

It's in SP. Also, in case it matters, I was taking fire from hostiles at the Orion gate in Thuban.

I exited and restarted the game a couple of times and the error would not go away.

Any screenshots of your nav console when this happened? Sounds like an SY offset.

 Meaning most of the star systems are on or near the galactic equator (SY=0). If you drifted or jumped to a position where SY is greater than +/- 8 sectors, you'd no longer see anything but empty space on your Nav map ... even when it's zoomed all the way out.

Then it would be something else because the map had all the information, but the sector was vacant at every locus I went to. I even manually entered coordinates exactly as the map showed.

Could it be a corrupt database originating from installation?

Doubtful as it would be more likely to just result in a crash. If the icons are on the map, then the objects are there. So it's far more likely that you were just up or down a sector or two from their location on SY. See if you can duplicate it and snap a few screenshots of your nav console.

I logged the coordinates, and apparently your theory is right. It has SY: -4.

Why would following a stargate, or whatever we're supposed to call them in this game, drop you into the wrong coords?

Are you certain it was a gate? If so, what were the coordinates of the originating gate? There are some 'hidden' gates that can lead to some peculiar locations as well as some wormholes. Just about all of the primary gates will link to the galactic ecliptic (SY 0). The Thuban to Orion gate should also link to the destination gate on the galactic ecliptic.

Wormholes... Could be something like that happened. When I warped from the gate to one of the stations I mysteriously overshot the destination and had to warp back - which is when I actually realized that there was nothing there.

I'm still new to the game, but as a sci-fi writer and speculator on the nature of the cosmos, that sounds like a wormhole.

The fact you were attacked right out of the gate makes me think you were evading and then hit a maximum range blind jump to escape. That could account for you being at sy -4. That has happened to me.

there are a few blackholes here, some will send you to another part of the universe, some will send you to oblivion (boom)
