EM - Automatic planet/object discovery indicator program?
I love finding new undiscovered things, but I hate jumping over and over, its like having my photo taken every few seconds and almost makes me sick after a while.
So I would like to know.
Is there a program that exists that monitors the in game map for graphical changes and indicates them to the player when found either by a sound or logging it into a .txt file for later viewing?
I saw that EM Tool seems to read the current memory and gathers positional data, so thats a start. But I did not see anything about automatic logging.
Thanks.

Hi Ippyshoo.
Try Atollskis Navdata program.
It's available on my sites downlode section.
You can log any findings there, plot a route using closest way and gates.
It also uses trilateration to help you find planets out there.
It logs your traveling as well.
There is also an Excel spreadsheet that helps you find containers if you have a Science officer on board.
This might not be what you search for, but it's worth a try.

Hi Ippyshoo - welcome to the game
Set logging on in Evometrics by SeeJay and MapMan (available in SeeJay's site) and it creates a log file of where and when you pass into and out of systems.
It's possible to fly between systems across uncharted space and find out the name of the "authority" you are flying through (usually a system or a planet) where you first entered its control and where you left it again. If something looks interesting you can fly through the interesting space in several directions and work out the boundary of the "new" system.
EM_Tools by Archy (also available from SeeJay's site) shows loads of info about your ship and also the nearest hostiles - it has a map in the centre that automatically shows each new system you fly through. It also lets you make notes in game!
Someone is working on a star finder and someone else on a planetary jump calculator!

EM - Automatic planet/object discovery indicator program?
Thanks for the reply and welcome DaveK and SeeJay.
Here is what I have done so far.
I tried the Navdata Executeble v0.8.zip, however it does not seem to work on my system.
When I try to open it I get a generic windows error saying it had to close.
When I delete the .txt file associated with the program it seems to generate new data files but they are empty and there is no data, so I'm not sure how to import it from that point.
I'm on WinXP SP3 32 Bit , if that helps.
I tried out Evometrics 1.5 but I do not see anything about logging in. The only thing that seems relevant is the button 'tracker' but it does not seem to do anything when I click it.
EM_Tools is awesome, I started using that a couple days ago on my second monitor. However the map system feels very unfriendly to use and I don't fully understand it.
Also, please forgive me but I still am confused a little. Are you saying that both Evometrics and EM_Tools have a logging system for when you pass through a new system or something of interest?
I was thinking I would make a copy of the original log file.
-So 2 log files
-Then fly my ship in one direction while eating watching tv or w/e
-Then later I will cross reference these files for any indications of new found systems, planets etc.
Thanks for the help gents.

I had some problems with Atollskis Navdata program.
I had to start with an empty log file and log stuff when I find them. That helped me to get it to work.
Regarding EvoMetrics.
Create a "savedatasettings.txt" in your game folder. Enter 2000 in that file and save it.
Also create an empty "savedata.txt" in that same folder if you don't have one already.
You must enter the correct paths in settings to be able to get all features.
- SaveData_FilePath: C:/sw3dg/EvochronMercenary/savedata.txt
- SaveData_Interval: 5000
This only works with the downloaded version, not with the online browser version.
(They are both connected to the same online DB thou.)
Hope this helps to get it going.

It seems I missed putting the savedata.txt file in the game dir as well. I only put one in the sw3dg folder while following the directions.
The only other difference is that I set my refresh time to 250ms because I prefer faster updates for combat situations when I want to know my shield status on the fly.
I seem to be able to click the tracker button now.
Also, besides trying to compare one .txt file to another, is there any other way to find out if I have discovered something that has not been found before?

I appreciate it Marvin, however I'm trying to form a setup so I can input coords far away. Then auto pilot to them. Then go AFK or whatever, finally come back and check my results to see if any systems or objects were found. That way I don't have to sit there staring at the screen for hours on end.
Once something is found, I will then do a comparison and hopefully have found something new

I think I owe you an apology! The automatic logging that I described is in MapLog! Duh!
(I use MapLog, EM_Tools and Evomentrics in various combinations on my second monitor!) I got tracking in Evometrics confused with it! Oh, how I miss my brain!
I then use Evometrics to see if something I don't recognise has been reported by another pilot. Using this method I have spotted two systems not reported by others though I must admit that SeeJay (System Discoverer Extraordinaire!!) actually tracked the central system star locations!
The triangulation system built into MapLog has it's fans! Marvin has written a very good guide (available from SeeJay's site) but I must admit that working out how to use it is bubbling up towards the top of my Must-Do List, but hasn't quite got there yet!
(there are still several thinks to do with exploring and experimenting I want to do first
)

Modding the warp effect so it's less flashy really helped me this:From post: 136495, Topic: tid=9313, author=Ippyshoo wrote:...

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

No problem DaveK
MapLog sounds promising. I will give that a try.
Also thanks for the cool warp effect Jack. I went with the blue one

Ippyshoo - put both in! The blue one is the fulcrum drive jumps and the other (rainbow) is the gate jumps!
