Distance too far for Fulcrum Jump drive class
Greetings all,
Just started playing this game and I am rather enjoying it, but I have ran into an issue today...
I was doing trading runs between Oasis and Pearl but after spending most of the day jumping back and forth on autopilot with no problems, then I found a Mantis drive and it seems now I am only able to jump if I pick a target within the map but just plotting the target it tells me the title of this thread
"Distance too far for Fulcrum Jump drive class"
now the Mantis drive worked for 2 trips, and now I am just stuck manually jumping or just cruising along at the max IDSx5 of 1346...
Anyone at all out there able to help a new Pilot out so I can return to using the autopilot rather then having to go back to the Fulcrum c5 drive.

There is no reason the autopilot would behave differently for the mantis drive than with other drives. You should be able to engage the autopilot normally. Use alt+f to get to your target. If it needs to do two or more jumps, it should work the same, even if you're a hundred sectors away (it just takes 10 jumps instead of 20).

Fulcrum C5 drives range is 5 sector boxes, per hop. Any thing out side of the posted ranges, requires the activation of one's auto-pilot, C1-C5 drives. Mantis experimental drives go MUCH further. With the Mantis drive, Alt-F is your friend! That engages your auto-pilot function "automatically". (Toggle Alt-F to disengage). Attend your HUD for yellow way-point marker/target destination. Prior to launch, ensure that you are lined up with that way-point marker, at 0. Zero and level on the ecliptic (pitch ladder, center HUD/trgt ring), nose of craft aimed/pointed dead center of that way-point marker. The last hop possible, according to the nav and drive's "physics", you should see a nav/way-point marker with distances scrolling or about to start scrolling down, upon your final approach to the destination end-point or station. Use the F2 toggle for short-distance hops, or to start your in-system contracts/missions. Or, you could make any entry for each location/station in your map log file, and spend time punching a single button, as opposed to three or four. The drive/nav suite will only do what you tell it to. The equipment functions as designed and published. The more you know, the more practise you have, the better you get. We've all been there. BTW, Welcome and Good Luck!

Thank you for the quick replies
I was troubleshooting it more last night, and it seems doing the route non stop for hours yesterday caused the game to no run right, after posting I was annoyed, so I exited the game and took a break, after about an hour I returned and it was working fine but only for about 3.5 trips, then the same thing started happening again.
I have been using the map log to go from the hidden Pearl Planet to the Oasis Station, but after awhile I would leave Pearl and turn on the autopilot and end up coasting... I realized it cause I went afk and got blown up by a passing Navy ship
Also I tried to check out the MP servers, but I tried most of the public ones and they seemed empty, if there a sector range on the chat or a way to see how many ppl are connected? Also I have seen it a few times in the posts on the site here saying to see you on the server, does this forum have an official server?
EDIT: Just started up the game now and finished the leg to Oasis with no issues, landed and restocked, went for the return trip, it jumped the first jump from the station, but now... "Distance too far..." and back to drifting... any help?
EDIT2: Did try the alt-F, same results, works still I land somewhere and then the autopilot won't jump anymore on its own

Are you making sure before you Auto Pilot jump your ships nose his facing the Destination Way Point Marker and that you are using Alt+F Keys (not Alt+F2). Also if you go AFK while Auto Piloting there are several things that can disrupt and disengage the Auto Pilot!.....

Also make sure all your energy is set to Weapons makes AutoPilot jumping faster!

I will have to take a video is I can find my program for that, but yes I tried alt+f2 and alt+f, the ship is pointing at the nav location, and it just drifts along at autopilot speeds and gives the error, it is starting to seem random, at times if i manually jump a couple times autopilot will resume like it should, other times i have to manually jump the whole way, and others it is going like it should. I have been trying to find the pattern, but one trip is works as intended, then the next it won't, I have tried to go slower to recreate it, but.... everything wants to shoot at me at the oasis stations, so I am in and out asap, so still testing to find the root cause :|

If you use Alt+F2 first and then try to use Alt+F Auto Pilot will not work correctly. For Auto Pilot to work correctly you have to set your Destination Coordinates first. Face the direction of the Destination Way Point Marker and use Alt+F.
If you use Alt+F2 first you have to reset your destination coordinates and realign with the Waypoint marker before using Auto Pilot Alt+F.....

Alt+F2 Changes your destination Coordinates to in sector coordinates in the sector you are in.

Depending on what time of day, the servers can be empty a lot of the time. From post: 136264, Topic: tid=9289, author=Sneaky420 wrote:

Something that i missed when i first started is,
That you can right mouse click the sever name before you try to join to see who is online inside that server.
Once inside a server the tilde key lists all players and their sector locations.
About the problem though. I am stumped, no idea.

Last night I had the ship spinning in circles after I hit ALT+F. I turned off autopilot, realigned the ship to 0 heading, 0 pitch and hit ALT+F again, then it was ok from there.
All the autopilot should be doing is:
1. If a short distance, flies you there at max IDS speed.
2. If long distance but still within max distance of Fulcrum drive, jumps you there.
3. If longer than that, automatically sets waypoints that are in between you and the destination at distances that your fulcrum drive can handle.
If it does anything other than that, stop the auto-pilot, re-align the ship, check that the destination is still correct and go again.

not sure if this is related but i get an autopilot glitch once and a while too. (very rarely)
i will set my coords then engage autopilot as usual and my ship will turn to the new heading and coast
the jump drive never engages. i tried evrything i could think of but only restarting game would fix it.
i cant duplicate it, as it happens at random.
I know a couple other veteran pilots who have had the same issue but never posted
we are all on the latest build

I think that it will not jump if your nav point is in the same sector.
Or it might be distance related. To short and you'll cruise instead!
