Armor vs agility?

Post by ostdarva »

Hi guys.

i just got the biggest ship u could buy (spacemaster i think) and i dont like how heavy it feels. i can turn around fast when i do pass bys and i still die fast if i acted like am a tank xD . tell me what u think?

i'm interested to know about a way to increase maneuverability or maybe a new strategy for heavy ships?

thx

higher class wing systems increase turn rate, but hulls like Mammoth are still going to be relatively slow when turning. Imo, it boils down to your combat style.
I'm flying around with Mammoth & wingsys class 10 and do okay-ish, taking down even larger groups is a non issue, granted it's a bit pain shooting down all the missiles when turning completely around takes roughly a month... :D

Military ships are more agile and better armoured than civilian craft - they also accelerate faster. But they aren't any use for trading.

As Malix says - better wings! But (there's always a but!) the difference in performance gets smaller as you move up the classes of wings and you use up more and more construction points so probably something else will have to go! - there is a chart of wing performance vs class in the manual and various other places like SeeJay's website)

Personally I prefer the Shotokan approach - slug it out and take the hits and get a hard hit in, rather than the "dance like a bee, sting like a like a butterfly" approach (it's something like that anyway) :P

It costs to store in a hangar and to buy the second frame but you could eventually have two ships - one for trading and topping up the bank balance and one (mil frame) for combat duties - you can swap equipment (in the 8 slots) between them so you don't have to buy the extras twice! :D

I use a Starmaster because I do not want to switch ships all the time. However, for combat the milspec ships are best. You can even have 8 equipment slots now (which was not always the case).

For the slower, less agile ships, there is a different combat style. So, you either need to learn a new combat style, or you need to get a ship that allows you to use the combat style that you're familiar with.

It's all personal preference. I use an Evoch-E because anything else seems far too sluggish. IMO it requires a steeper learning curve than say a Shrike or a Chimera, but I just can't deal with the slower ships. It's easy to over correct in a ship like an Evoch-E and the armor isn't as solid as its heavier counterparts, but I think in the right hands (and with enough practice) it can be extremely deadly.
