Way off, in the furthest edges of the game radar, comes a new "classic" space combat game.

Anyway, it seems that there might be enough consumer interest in space combat to actually get the sluggish corporations to produce one. Let's hope it's decent.

Looks interesting, definitely has shades of old school wing commander and freespace but having its own identity. Good to know its backed by an indie developer.:)

sorry to be a kill joy, but (this is not directed at you, cause it applies to a whole idea that indie is better):
I'm really sick of this whole idea that because a game is by an indie developer that it is somehow better. if anything, the crazy rush of indie developers appearing everywhere has brought the quality of videogames down 2 or 3 steps. most indie developers really, really suck at what they do. there are a few real good indie devs out there (Vice is great, for example) but the majority of them ruin everything they touch. the kind of crap that gets pumped out these days is nuts. for every game EA/activision/ubisoft/etc publishes (that's almost guarenteed to give you many hours of gameplay), something crazy like 15 indie games come out. if you are lucky, 1 will be good out of those 15.

its like indie rock....just about every indie rock band I've heard I've downright hated. the quality of music was absolute trash....their whole goals were to "stick it to the man" and not sign with a big record label....well, the small "indie" labels that signed them were owned by the big 3 (warner, sony BMG, and EMI).

Tl;DR version:
"Indie" does not mean good. GOOD means good. dont judge the game based on who makes it. play it and judge (unless the drm sucks).
believe or not, the "big evil corporations" are good for the economy.

That's all well and good, and I don't know exactly what you tastes is music are but, aside from having major label distribution, RUSH has been and always will be an Indy band. Not in the same sense as the Genre of Indy, but in the sense of they do it their way or no way at all.

As far as Indy Devs go, sometimes you have to give them the benefit of the doubt and look at concept and composition over quality. Many of them are just getting started and when they release a game, they SUPPORT that game until as many bugs as feasible are worked out. Good luck getting EA or Ubisoft to offer technical support for many of their cult following titles even if to this day those games still attract new players on a regular basis.

That said, you are also correct in saying you cannot label every big company as an uncaring syphon for your hard earned ducats. There are many that act in the interest of gaining a solid reputation with their clientelle. So yes, not all big corporations are bad for the economy.

 When a program reaches cult status (living way beyond its release date), it's almost always because modders make it better.
