If you're willing to be the target I'll do the timings :P
Any time bud. I'm usually online in the evenings US EST.

I'l be on tonight blowing up a station I built. If it goes well, I'm going to start blowing up every station I see. Heh heh. Mostly kidding.

I'd be a willing target in the name of science. I tried using the flarebeam exclusively without the fusion beam and it walloped civilian frames. Mammoths and Starmasters crumbled within seconds, and I never drained the energy past 98%. Military frames held up much better, perhaps better shields...? However including the laser didn't seem to much a HUGE difference with them either, just a much more pronounced energy drain. I'm starting to wonder if there's any good reason to include the beam weapon, and if there's not, maybe the maxim is the way to go. Without the beam weapon draining your resources you can fire it in extended bursts, and it's more powerful than the icespear or flarebeam with the same excellent range.

I think most can agree that range is important, against the AI and especially so in PvP. If your opponent can start pounding on you +/- 200 closer then you're already out of the fight as far as I can tell.

Definitely i think these are more important in pvp (which i've never done) since i've had a phantom since well, i ever found one, and i've had no trouble fighting swarms of enemies with it. I'm gonna switch to the icespear though and see how much better or not i'm doing. The range of the phantom had been annoying me but generally against pretty much any AI ship i can still kill them in one "run". Still if i could cut down the time spent fighting enemies by even 25% that would be nice.

I've generally used the IceSpear/Neodymium combo, since forever. Been having a lot of fun with the FireFury/Coil combo too, of late. Sometimes, I'll switch-up and use the Max-R/MetalVapor, or Coil combos. It depends on the frame I'm flying and the targets I'm up against. Naval barrage-fire first (Excals), then strafeing/enfilade/defilade fire to break up the large chunks, has always been the ops plan. All the while, managing power usage through short bursts from the primary weapons suite. Breath control, sight alingment, and trigger squeeze - forever and allways the hallmarks of a Rifle Marksman. The plan usualy doesn't survive the first moment of contact, however. ;)

Lots of the PvP'ers use the FlareBeam/Fusion combo, as I've found by being the recipient of their "attention". That combo works as well as any other. Yet again, it's the wpns combo, the wpns platform, and the intended targets that should inspire the selection process. :)
