Game Menu Voiceovers

Post by BardRT »

I've been having an absolute BLAST with this game so far. It's precisely the space game I've been actively looking for for going on 3 years now.

That said, I have a question/request for a possible future feature:

In the main menu, where you can select things like "Launch" and "Multiplayer" there are overhead "station sounds" like:

"Station license-holders must keep their comm key with them at all times."

Is there any way that, as a future feature, these and other in-game sounds could be plain .ogg or .wav files that we could either use for other purposes (cell phone ringtones for example) or replace with our own sounds?

I ask because I've been playing another online space game for quite a few years and am trying to get a number of players from that game to play this one - being able to replace the in-base sounds with stuff from the various factions on that game would highly amuse them.

I don't know if using external sound files instead of storing the sounds in .dat files as I think they are now would constitute a significant performance hit, but it would be a truly fun feature as far as modding is concerned. (People with X-Wing HUDs could add Star Wars sounds if they wanted, etc)

Is this even a remote possibility, Vice?

Hi and welcome.

Have you checked the Customizing Kit?
http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... nloads.htm

Lots of modifications can be done already.

Hope to catch you out there;)

I'm not sure if it's listed in the kit, but you can indeed modify the menu voice sequences. To change the 'beep' announcement sound, use the filename menuvoicebeep.wav in the \\sounds folder. Then for the voice samples themselves, use the following filenames in the \\sounds folder:

menuvoice1.wav - All pilots must check in at the guild comm center upon arrival.

menuvoice2.wav - Commercial flight plans may be filed at any terminal on the observation deck.

menuvoice3.wav - Passenger manifests must be logged with the dock master prior to departure.

menuvoice4.wav - Automated random cargo inspections will take place in the docking hangar.

menuvoice5.wav - Station license holders must keep their comm-key with them at all times.

menuvoice6.wav - Failure to comply with transport regulations can result in detainment and fines.

menuvoice7.wav - All civilian spacecraft must yield to capital class ships upon arrival and departure.

menuvoice8.wav - Food cargo may be tested for radiation exposure on the medical deck.

menuvoice9.wav - Pilots with class 2 or 3 ratings may be required to pay a docking fee upon arrival.

menuvoice10.wav - Pilots with class 1 ratings may dock at any available hangar.

menuvoice11.wav - Station notice, observe radar activity and follow traffic guidelines.

menuvoice12.wav - All ships must submit to random safety inspections upon order by the dock master.

menuvoice13.wav - Hangar fees will be required for stored cargo or ships.

menuvoice14.wav - Free countermeasures will be provided for any fuel purchase.

menuvoice15.wav - Current local market prices for commodities are available in the news console.

menuvoice16.wav - Station notice, asteroids are in this system, observe caution when using jump drive.

menuvoice17.wav - Station notice, nebulae are in this system, use caution when navigating under short range sensor conditions.

I'm not worried, there's no contraband to be bought anyway.....but there really should be.;)

And i was just thinking, it could be nice if those voices also played in the background when you're in a station/city menu and in the hangar (maybe not in the shipyard though).
