Running the latest update EM 1.828
Recently upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit from XP sp3
I tested the game on the new OS with the previous update and it launched fine.
Now in multiplayer and single player it loads to 98% initializing data and then CTD with the error in the subject line.
Windows 7 64bit
Intel Quad Core 2.33Ghz
8 GB RAM
GeForce 460 GTX 1GB fsb
500 GB HD
Using Realtek onboard HD audio
I have been having some strange issues with my display blacking out but I think I've ironed that out, all other games and applications are running fine. I did copy over my save files and HUD and environment mods, but it was working like that before I applied the latest update tonight. A missing file perhaps? Dunno. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

First, test without the mods. If the behavior changes, start reinstalling the mods one at a time to find out where the memory clipping point is. The error is happening when the game is trying to load a capital ship mesh, but the problem may just be related to an unrelated memory issue. Also, if you are using any security software, make sure it is updated for the new files included with the new build of the game (including its new media file).

Does this benefit a system with a 64 bit OS?From post: 130382, Topic: tid=8906, author=8rennus wrote:Large Address Aware memory utility -- fixes a lot of crashes

Okay Vice, I removed all mods and startd the game up. I went to switch my Evoch-E frame to my Starmaster, but when I exit from the Hangar I CTD and get:
Runtime error 105: File does not exist at line 66315
A few things: I actually was able to get to this point with the mods installed, I can get into the game and fly around but switching ships causes this crash. I did a fresh install without the mods too, same deal. I don't know if it's my new OS or the update or both. I never had any issues running this game with this same hardware with XP. Windows 7 looks great and has interesting features, but XP sp3 ran all of my programs so much more smoothly, but I digress. I applied the LAA from the link above as well, no difference. Grrr. Arrrgh.

I think the problem is specific to 64 bit systems. I was getting the same error when loading a large number of mods, and removing those mods was the only solution to the problem. The LAA utility allows the program to utilize more than 2GB's of memory, and directly addresses the error allowing me to load as many mods as I want. Evochron hasn't crashed since.

I've never had any problems w/ Evochron not directly related to the problem I outlined. Your update sounds more problematic than memory allocation. From post: 130393, Topic: tid=8906, author=Twilly Frost wrote:Okay Vice, I removed all mods and startd the game up. That error suggests file interference. Again, check any security programs you may have installed and make sure the game is listed as an exception. Also, try running the game with the 'Run as administrator' option and test for changes. If you'd like me to review your system for possible causes, follow the steps here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/faq.htm#8Okay Vice, I removed all mods and startd the game up. Okay, wow...Run as Administrator? Sorry Vice, I'm new to Windows 7 and I had no idea that being logged in as the Administrator didn't mean that programs were automatically run with those rights. I did that and the problem is fixed, even with mods, running beautifully...I just turned off UAC altogether as this is an extremely obnoxious feature for a single user PC.
Thank you sir for your time, sorry for wasting it!
