Hi vice
I'm running a private dedicated server on one machine and playing on another all is working fine with server ver 1.808 but when I try ver 1.808e or 1.828, I can connect from my pc but no one can connect from the outside. I have tried it with firewalls off and no go. I've been thru all the settings and services I can think of but the only thing that works is going back to ver 1.808
the server is an old dell dimension 4600
win xp pro sp3
pentium 4 2.4 ghz
768 mb ram
geforce 5200 agp video card
and old soundblaster card
I have no router so this machine is set up with 2 lan cards and internet connection shareing enabled. first lan card is connected to cable modem, second lan card is connected to my game pc via null modem cable
could this configuration be the problem?
is there a windows "service" required in the new version that i might have dissabled?
thanx for any help
p.s. i have a new email address in my profile if needed.

Here are a couple of things to try:
1 - Verify that the external internet IP address that the other players are using is still the same as before. If your internet connection has reset at all, your ISP may have assigned you a new IP address. Use the program's own detection option to retrieve the address.
2 - Make sure the required ports are open/available through the cable modem (especially if it has a built-in router) and check that the ports are set to the correct LAN address (if applicable), which may have also changed since the older version was used.

Ok, send me a quick e-mail with the IP address you are using when the server program is active and running a session and I'll run some tests.

I was able to ping to it, but the connection would not take. So there may be something bound to the original program that isn't being updated for the newer programs (which could be confirmed if things work again when you reinstall the older 1.808 build) or something hardware/setting related changed on the system. If the program side of things checks out, one steps I'd suggest is temporarily disabling the other LAN/network device, leaving only the one device listed for the connection to the modem. Then we can test with that to see if there is any difference.

Yup, that worked fine. Seems the system was binding the server program's connection requests to the other network device. The solution is probably to just bind the connection to the internet IP since you are directly connected to the modem with no local LAN address in place. In the text2.dat file, enter the internet IP address in both the local and internet IP lines and it should properly bind to that address in the future.
