Cyborg R.a.t. 7, thumbwheel binding

Post by Malix »

Hey,

I can't seem to be able to bind the thumbwheel scroll (either direction) to any function in EM. All other buttons/bells/whistles can be bound just fine.

I think I can bypass this by binding some keyboard keypress to the wheel from it's software, but imo sounds like a "dirty hack" than a solution. It might cause weirdness in other games and I'd have to be sure the wheel-bound keys aren't bound in the game anywhere else.

Did you try the in Game mouse configuration? The Saitek X52 Throttle also has a mouse wheel and the only way to asign it is through the software profile editor. Does your Software allow you to create a seperate profile for Evochron Mercenary so that it will not affect your other games settings?....;)

err, yea? :D

The in game keyboard/mouse conf lets me assing pretty much everything except the thumb wheel.

And yea, the rat7 profile editor lets me set keyboard keys/macros/similar to the wheel, but like I said, its more or less a "dirty hack", as then I'd have to scout for buttons not currently used by the game (ie, no binding v or b to the mouse).

But, it'll have to do if no other options are available :P

Don't think there's any other way around it. I got a R.A.T. 7 as well, and that's the case with all games. You gotta find some unused keys by the game and map it to the thumbwheel, or simply map the thumbwheel to the default button of the action in the game.
The thumbwheel is an oddity in the world of mice, so there's no default name for it in most software, unlike Mouse Button 1-5 and so.

true.

I just wish it would function even remotely like the tilting mousewheel on most modern mice.

Yeah mapping it as keys results in behavior that doesn't feel quite right unlike the regular scroll wheel. I think it's tweakable through advanced macros. But I haven't experimented much as my R.A.T. 7 is a paper weight at the moment. It refused to move horizontally a lot, not what you expect out of a mouse marketed for gaming.
