[EM 1.808] Simultaneous joystick /and/ mouse control

Post by HaraDaya »

Originally posted on the EM Steam forums. But I figure I'd have better luck here.
Is this possible? I have a Logitech G13, I would like to find a good combo of simultaneously using the G13's joystick, and my mouse. Maybe have the joystick assigned to rolling while I still pitch with the mouse. The game doesn't seem to like the idea, it's either or.
To clarify, the Logitech G13 looks like this. The joystick knob on it is a directinput device with 2 axis, y and x.
This is the case in many games, they're deadset on only letting you play with a joystick, or mouse. It's become a pet-peeve of mine since I got the G13

Do you want to use the Logitech G13 as joystick controller and mouse controller at the same time, or use the G13 and a seperate mouse at the same time?

I think the first you can do, by asigning the mouse buttons in the Games Configuration joystick menu assigning the mouse buttons to those Keys controlled by the Joystick!. The second option I'm not sure of!

As separate input device control systems, they can't be blended. However, if there is a way to get Windows to recognize the mouse you are using as another game control device (not just as a mouse), then the game will be able to pick it up on another device ID/channel, which would let you map an axis channel on it while simultaneously mapping another/other axis channel(s) on a joystick. PPJoy is a program that has been able to do this in the past from a software standpoint. Another option might be with the G13 and mapping its axis channel(s) as mouse inputs, if it provides profiling software that would support such an option.

The G13 knob acts like a joystick, with two axis, and a single button. The rest of the keys are usually programmed to imitate regular keyboard presses. I have a separate mouse (Sidewinder mouse), and I want to use both the precision of the mouse pointing, and the analog movement of the joystick.

But basically the solution you're suggesting, Vice, is to create a virtual joystick that responds to my mouse axis input? Yeah I can see that might work. I'll give it a try.

There's a big selection of games that let me use both; ArmA II, Far Cry 2, GTA4, Red Faction: Guerrilla. Most recent is Battlefield 3, where I move with the joystick instead of WASD on the keyboard, giving me control of the movement speed. But still aiming with the mouse. I just assigned the joystick axis to movement in the options, and that was it. But once in a while a game won't let me, like Evochron. If it's something with the way the engine works, that's that, but I wanted to make sure. /rant
