Texture bug?

Post by Viper »

Hi Vice

Just now, I had some kind of weird bug I haven't seen before, right after starting up the game. I logged on to the server and noticed my ship was gone. The thruster, engine and weapon effects were still visible though.
I also noticed a planet with a flaw in the texture.

Here are some screeny's to show you:

I checked to make sure, but it was the same with and without the ENB Series effects enabled.
I do remember though, that before I logged on to the server, I had a runtime error when starting the game, and it canceled just before 100%. I tried again immediately afterwards, and then this appeared.

Can it be that since my game is pretty heavy on mods, I'm running a bit short on available memory?...

This is the Runtime error I got:

And since it happened, I have had it 3 more consecutive times, trying to log on. I have never had an error like that before (well maybe just once way back) and I have not changed anything in my mod files since it was running perfectly.

I think it could be a memory problem some times it does not show up till a certain mod is trigered by being near or have a visual of the mod in the system you are in!.....Some mods are system specific and are only triggered when you are in that system!....but I could be wrong on this!....;)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking Maars.

Here's an update.
Before crashing, the game reaches 98% @ 'Initializing Data'. At that time the memory usage is as shown in the screenshot, around 1.4 Gig:

I have 1.66 Gig of available memory. Could this be it?

Yes, those are all symptoms of running out of memory. I'd suspect your system has intermittently run out of both primary system RAM (the stop errors with messages about not being able to load objects/images) and video memory (missing textures/meshes). At 1.5 GB used (wow!), you're likely right at the limit of a main consecutive memory block. The game normally uses about 2/3 of that without mods and the closer you can bring it down to that level, the fewer problems like that you'll likely encounter. There must be some very large textures/meshes being included to push the memory use that high.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I thought it was a bit high lol. I removed the high res asteroid and tree textures, which has limited the memory load to just below 1.2 Gig. I still think that a lot but it works now. And I guess that's the sacrifice one has to make for enjoying all those nice mods.

A question on the side: how much memory will Windows 7 32-bit accept? I have 3 Gig of RAM installed at the moment and it might be worth considering expanding that a bit.

Edit:
And what would be the best way to install the memory? Divide it over as many sockets as possible, or as few as possible? I think I have 4 available but I wuld need to double check that.

Just to let you know, it was definitely a memory problem. As stated above, removing some of the mods helped. I also reinstalled Windows, which didn't hurt either.
In addition, I applied the Large Address Aware memory utility and assigned 2 Gig of RAM to EM, just in case I choose to add more mods in the future. It still takes a long time to load though, but that's probably because of the size of all the mods together combined with the limited abilities of my computer. Time to start saving for a new one then.

Thanks for the help, this one is sorted.
