Thinking on buy the game, but i need info

Post by Alex Leonhart »

Id like to know how the progress work, in terms of improving the ship in multiplayer, like if in RPG high level player can wipe 5 newbies only by the difference of improvement of the ship, also i hear about you can play SP and switch to MP, if the data are saved locally, anyone can cheat and play MP right?

I like the idea of trading, do missions and take much effort to improve the ship, but if anyone can cheat on MP there is no point on that, what can you tell me about it guys?

Alex.

Your progress and achievements in SP are carried forward onto MP, so you can practise in SP to get some skills and then hone them in MP. Remember, there are a lot of skilful players in MP!!

As for cheating, the server side is clever enough to detect altered profiles but Vice has built in some very clever encryption to prevent it. If I am wrong I am sure somebody will let you know. As far as I am aware then cheating is not possible. However if you go up against skilled pilots............ but then the community is very fair and rest assured, noobs are not picked on persistently. See you in MP soon then, and BA look forward to welcoming you there!

Hi Alex Leonhart, welcome to the game and forum!....Hope to see you out there some time!....;)

There is no Cheating in the Game possible. What your progress is in single play is the same as in multiplay for the player profile you use. You could build a better ship and build up your rank and rating in Single Play but you still have to work for it, there are no shortcuts or cheats and then go on Multiplay with your better build ship and rank and rating but you will still be at a disadvantage because Player versus Player fights are completely different and you will still get your but kicked!
Fortunately enough most Servers have rules to prevent newbies from getting spam killed by other players. So I would suggest the best way to learn is to join Multiplay and most players are very helpfull in answering your questions and helping you out and you might even learn some tricks and get some tips and help with questions!

There are 3 Progress steps you can work on as an Individual Pilot and 4 if you belong to a Clan.

1. Civilian Rank, highest is Legend, by doing contracts and trading and mining to increase your wealth.
2. Military Rank, highest is Fleet Admiral, by doing military contracts/missions in any of the 4 Warzones.
3. Change your reputation in all Systems to Good. In most systems your reputation will be Hostile, Moderate or Fair and you can change these to Good by doing contractts/missions in those systems for the Navy, Miners and Energy factions!

4. This is only if you join a Clan or start your own and then you can work towards territory/system control as a Clan!

I think is awesome that the game can handle anti-cheats, i like that a lot, but there is another "problem" due to save data locally, saved files:
Saved at beginning of game with 15 million credits, 2 wingmen and 2 crew. Place in sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\settings.
that´s 1 example, anyone can copy uber save datas, is not worse than cheating, but almost.

I saw that there is 3 Evochron games, if i´m right mercenary is the last one on the series and is independent of the previous ones, is correct?

And last, id like to know how the uber pros play this game, i mean controls, i only got keyboard+mouse (obviously), dualshock 3 from PS3 and 1 arcade stick, im afraid that any pro sim player wipe the floor with my ass only with some kind of super joystick without entering into progress, like from start i got a huge handicap due to my controls.

Toughs about all this? thx

I've lived long in evochron MP with only keyboard mouse and had nice pvp s with only keyb + mouse so i doubt it will give any "uber" advantage of having joystick, but of course it would be easier to have joystick

Hi Alex, welcome to the game. You are correct that players can copy saved games and gift them to another player, but that could cause more problems that it is worth. To gain Fleet Admiral/Legend status you must be able to handle yourself in combat. It is impossible otherwise. So you as a new player get given a top notch profile and enter Evochron Space feeling like God, but you wont have the skills to back up your status and veteran pilots will wipe the floor with you. Being a top rank will attract attacks from some players because they think you can handle it.

Merc is the latest. Prior to that you had Legends and before that Renegades. Each is independent from each other. There is also Avoch Alliance, the latest game. This is set in the same universe but is a different typr of game. It is a mission based combat sim, not a sandbox.

I fly using an X52 with mouse for some of the console controls. However, there are a few pros out there who only fly with mouse and keyboard.

Hi and welcome Alex.

I don't know if I'm a "uber Pro" but I play with X52 Stick/Throttle and I can't live without it.

Many great fighter pilots use Mouse/Keyboard thou, so it's not a must.

Mercenary is the latest "Sandbox" game. (Expansion is being worked on and is to be released this year)
Arvoch Alliance is the latest and is based on story only. (Progress by completing tasks)

Hope to see you out there,
SeeJay

Alex, I have a preference for joysticks myself but I find for intense, precision, flying a mouse is usually best. Especially if you're going to be doing a lot of dogfighting. A lot of joystick interfaces I've come across over the years are just too sensitive for my tastes, and I find that I spend so much time with my hand and wrist tense flying becomes painful after too long. Hence I stick with the mouse. I don't think you lose out over someone with an X52. In fact I find it MORE responsive for dogfighting to use a mouse and at the same time fine adjustments are also easier. Maybe it's the different muscle groups involved (shoulder girdle versus wrist and forearm), or maybe it's just the years of Freelancer talking, but I still prefer the mouse in EM so my joystick is still gathering dust.

I think is sold, for what im seeing the joystick X52 seems to be one of the best for expert players?

and it´s not bad play with mouse due to the need of lift up and reposition if you are moving on one direction? is not better with sticks on gamepad?

thank you all.
