Question about the game.

Post by Jerom »

I've just saw the game on steam and it immedietly spiked my interest. I've followed the link to the site to read up on the game and was suprised to find that there is a 90 minute demo. However instead of actually using the time to demo the game I've wasted it by trying to mine asteroids and dying couple (dozens) of times trying to jump and dock the station to sell the goods. Effectively I haven't played at all. (I knew I had to pay more attention during the tutorial and no try to wing it)

I've always liked Freelancer and enjoyed the trading aspect of it . Evochron sounds amazing but I am wondering if there is a plotline in the game? I've read up th FAQ and it mentions that there are missions but nothing about story. Am I save to assume that Evochron is similar to Mount & Blade in that aspects? A world for you to explore, trade, conqure with dynamic economy and plethora of quests but without governing story plot?

Thank you in advance.

 There's a Wiki where you can read the backstory. You can also DL Arvoch Alliance and do the demo for that game ... which is, in itself, a backstory for Mercenary. If you had Evochron Legends, you could do a couple stories and then do the Mercenary quest that's in the current game. Or you could simply watch the Intro movies and get some idea about what's what.

And if I'm not mistaken, the 90 minute demo time resets when you reinstall it. So you can play the demo as often as you like. ;)

Or select the "training" option and just ignore the instructor. This lets you get more of an idea about the Sim. You can't go wrong with this one though imho.:)

Thanks for the answers I'll do that. Can I get a direction to the wiki? It appears not to be linked to on the main page. A brief question on Multiplayer. I've looked through several threads and got a mixed idea of what it is like. From one side it seems like you can play with others on a "centralized" server (Some similar to how MMOs work) and on the other side that you can set up your own server (like in minecraft). Is capable of both or am I wrong?

It may seem like there is a centralized server by the posts since for a long time there was only Remula 1 server, then for a few months only my USS server. After the steam sale player-base increased tremendously, and now there are 8 servers, so no one common context for understanding clan posts and such anymore.

To answer more simply, all servers are private servers, and you can indeed start your own.
