Hi There,
I purchased the steam version of evocron on steam and have not been able to play it.
I have scanned the tech support forum for similar issues and cannot find a similar one.
the issue is that the game crash's long before it gets to any menu or similar.
The Event viewer reports the following:
Faulting application EvochronMercenary.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4d460aea, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00000000, process id 0x244, application start time 0x01ccd94db4f1d352.
does this help anyone. i have a custom rig and ive been running Avast for the past 3 years no issues. my specs are well above recommended.
Many thanks,
Wally

That appears to be an early memory error. There can be a variety of causes for a 0xc0000005 exception. If you complete the steps here, I can review your system for possible causes: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/faq.htm#8

Hi wally135, just to be on the safe side, put the game in Avast's (I run Avast also)exception folder. Don't worry, with Vice at your side it will work in time.
Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Have fun and hope to see you in Multi-Player sometime.

Thanks for the report. Looks like 3/4 of your memory is used up, leaving only just over 1 GB of memory for the game. There is quite a long list of runnnig tasks using up your system's resources. So I'd suggest these steps:
1 - Try to turn off as many of those tasks as feasible (including Impulse), leave only Steam and Avast and critical programs needed to operate your system's video and sound devices. Try to stop everything else. Run MSINFO32 again and check the available physical memory, try to get that number up over 2 GB just to be safe. Your system has 4 GB installed on a 64-bit OS, so this shouldn't be a problem.
2 - Update DirectX using Microsoft's web installer here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 Launch and test the game.
3 - Perform a system file check (will need to be done with an admin account or in safe mode). Start > Run/Search > type in SFC /SCANNOW and press enter. You should see a message that stays on the screen for a while as the scan completes.
4 - Check your system for other damage/infection with Avast's scanner and with Malwarebytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ).

I was in the process of upgrading the ram on my pc. I now have 8gb but the game still will not load. the memory tester just says
"C:\\Windows\\system32\\d3dx9_31.dll is either not designed to run or contains an error."
I have tried running a regsvr32 to no avail. All DX9 Games run ok despite this.....

You could have something more seriously wrong with your system. Did you complete all of the steps I posted above (particularly the SFC step)?
