I started with orginal Wing Commader + expansion packs and Colony Wars for Playstation(1). Then I had nothing for a very long time :(. I was feeling nostalgic, so I started searching around to see if I could find something along that vein. When I found SW3DG, and saw some of the posted videos, I was hooked. :):):):):)

I believe it was mentioned in the Jumpgate Evolution forums, or somewhere around there.

I used to play Jumpgate long before it sort of melted under lawsuits and corporate nonsense. I was looking around for new information about Jumpgate Evolution (vaporware) and someone mentioned this game in passing.

I added it to a list I was developing of possible games. Was a week or two until I got back to it. After seeing the spaceflight model in just the tutorial, I was hooked. When I landed on a planet, I bought the game.

I haven't regretted it since, though I wish the community was larger and/or more active. :\\

Years ago I was searching for a replacement of mine, that I played even more years back, a favorite Atari game called Frontier Elite. The star map is still hanging up in the hallway. After searching the Web I purchase Evochron Alliance. After that I played Freelancer. Then along came Evochron Legend. Quite a Space Stone advancement. Now I play Evochron Mercenary.

I have to work for a living. :o

Hello,
I was looking for a space opera game for long time, a game with free roaming mode, exploration , harvesting, etc...( i found recently this kind of game was also called "4X").
I've played (and enjoyed) free space and freelancer.
The space game i prefer was, is, and will surlely ever be is a space but planet-side FPS/RTS name BattleZone (first and second)
Few years ago i found a space opera with all the features a gamer could dream (planet-side fight whith infantry, vehicules, possibility to command capitals ship with fine managing of crew, fighters, turrets ,etc), but it was just unplayable, controls were acting with lag,etc... it's obvious i didn't hunderstood how to play, but i realy tried so the whole game was a frustration.
Recently a friend of mine pointed me a capital-ship game, a good game but with tricky interfaces and curious controls.
... to curious for me, so i started again researchs of THE game.
5 years without hearing of Evochron... and i first read that name in that french-game-magazine's forum's topicCanardPC (third result in "space opera pc" google.FR research), a topic about spaces operas of the moment.
I must admit i didn't click on evochron first, but once i've done that, the 90 mn demo achieved to conquier me, i bought the game...
i realy love the in-space flight model (but i'm still working on mastering it...) planetary mode, trading and mining features,...
I didn't had a look at nations and trades routes but this game seems to have even more surprises (even more looking at develpoment)

have nice glide:)

I heard about it from a friend who saw it on Steam. She knew I liked these kind of games and forwarded it to me. I bought it nearly instantly.

I first became aware of the star wraith games about 6 years ago when i was trying to find a game to "quench my thirst" for space sims after re-installling freelancer for like the third time. At the time i tried Arvoch but i only played it for maybe a few hours. I'm not sure at all how i came upon star wraith site, possibly google. Then in 2008 (i think), again looking for sims, I came upon the star wraith site once more. I don't rememer precisely how but i think it might have been through Spacesimcentral that time. Anyway at the time i tried the demo for Legends (or was it the one before that in 2008?) and thought it seemed like a fine game but wasn't sure I would like it enough to buy it so after maybe 4 or 5 hours spent in the demo I just kind let it go. And then now, about two weeks ago, AGAIN looking for a freelancer type game (in the meantime the X games, Darkstar one and Spaceforce all had failed to interest me past a handful of hours) I remembered the star wraith games. I was just about to buy legends when i realised there was a newer one.

There's an elite-style game that nobody ever talks about but it's one of my best games of all time. It's called HardWar.
Back in the day I used to play it with my brother. It was the first game of it's kind I ever played and I completely fell in love with it.

So for a while after that, I went around looking for a more modern game that would give me that same feeling. I tried Darkstar One and X3:R, and X3:TC among others.

Darkstar One disappointed, but that didn't surprise me. X3 was a complete failure IMO. Was all about the features but the experience didn't seem to be a priority. The game does absolutely NOTHING to endear itself to new players. I felt like all this awesome stuff was (maybe) going on around me and I couldn't appreciate it cause the game was needlessly obtuse. They'll be lucky if they ever get my money again.

So in my search I came across Evochron. I hesitated for a long time cause I love my space games to look pretty and Evochron is a bit rough around the edges. But once I tried it I soon felt it had the soul that X3 lacked, and is the closest I felt to HardWar ever since.

Dr. Nemesis, I agree with you on all points. Im glad you mentioned Hardwar as that is one of my all time favorite games, my brother and I even memorized the epic dialogue from the intro lol. That game delivered the goods and its very underrated imo. X series I could never get into. Mercenary was a dream come true for me, along with this superb community. Welcome to Evochron my friend.:)

MilitaryGamers.com by way of Steam. A discussion got started on our site after a couple of us viewed the game on Steam and several of us bought it to try out and report back to our community. It's snowballing from there and you will probably be seeing a lot more [MG] tags in the public multiplayer servers within the coming days and weeks. We are big on team-based tactics so where there's one of us, there's probably more close by. :)

It just got a little Steam-y in here.

It was a featured game... and I'm a Steam junkie. I've been looking for an open Space Sim like this for a long time. I'm a student of Privateer, Tachyon: The Fringe, Freespace 1&2, Freelancer, ahem... Tradewars?, and even the Open Source Babylon 5 sim.

All of these seem to culminate into what this is. It's lacking polish and some usability, but it scratches an itch I haven't been able to satisfy for a very long time.

Thanks!

Steam has generated many new players, and I am now reinforcing this impression:

I saw Evochron Mercenary on Steam's Featured page, and I watched the trailer. When I saw what it is and the indicators that it was similar to Freespace and Freespace 2 (little white asteroid brackets), I was like "buybuybuybuybuybuybuybuy", and so therefore I bought it.

I also found the game on Steam,I took a look at the forums and even at 3 pages long there was not one "this game sucks" thread so that started to build my interest so when a friend bought it and they said it's pretty good I decided to give it a try while it was on sale. So far it's been worth the money ,but I am getting a little bored cleaning solar panels, where can I find some newbie combat missions?

Steam. Watched the vid twice. Linked a friend. He concurred we might have a winner. Someone on the Steam forum said there was a demo on the main site. Confirmed it worked. Bought both my and his copy through your site.

Was featured on Steam and had been looking for something like this for a while.
