It's an odd problem to be sure, but the game is essentially unplayable for me right now. I thought my keyboard/mouse sensitivity was too high, since my ship was turning too fast to control, but then I noticed how quickly I was zooming around compared to my regular gaming desktop.
The main body of evidence that the game is running too fast came from a distress call mission timer. It was counting down some 6 seconds to every 1 instead of 1:1 as per usual. Is there anything I can do? I've tried messing with video settings so far, and that's all. I didn't want to dig into anything else just yet without checking the forums.

That's a strange occurance. Is your system overclocked or modified in any way? What do the FPS and timer readouts display when you hold the ~ key? Have you tried one or both of the non-'Max Vsync' screen modes and was there any change in framerate behavior?

Well, that indicates that the system is barely able to keep up and the clocked is pegged at the minimum possible, so it would definitely be pretty unplayable at that level of updating. I'd be interested in reviewing your system in detail, please follow the steps here:
http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/faq.htm#8
There might be something we can try/change to improve performance enough to at least make it more playable.

Thanks! I appreciate the help! I'm at my laptop more than my desktop, so it would be nice to get it working so I can play more often!
From my brief play yesterday, it looks like a ton of fun. I also learned a valuable lesson: Don't warp into asteroid fields!

hi, im having a similar issue as well. ive made a post in the steam forums as well as sent an email to the address on the FAQ page. ill copy and post my steam posting here as well, just so anyone with this problem knows their not alone
Hi, I just bought this game and sat through the training a bit. i noticed the mouse was highly sensitive, didn't think it was a problem just have to turn it down.
then the rolling was way too fast as well, which im using keyboard controls so that worried me if there was an option for fixing that.
However as soon as combat training started the probe was warping around the screen at light speeds, with random fire i was able to finally shoot it down.
Then i noticed that warp travel was instant and my movement seemed to be very very fast compared to what i saw in the trailer video.
so with all those details i believe this game is running way too fast on my computer and was wondering if anyone knows of a patch or a fix for this. i have tried running it on 1 single core using affinity settings in task manager, as well as making a shortcut command to have the affinity set before the application launches.
here are my specs:
Processor: Intel I7 3.2GHz
Memory: 12GB
Video: GTX 460
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate
Any other specs needed or suspect i would be glad to provide and any help is appreciated.

Thanks to testing help from frogbot and another player, I was able to code a solution for this problem that will be part of the next update for the game, which will hopefully be available this weekend or by next week at the latest.

Just had the same experience as Leomaxwell973, bought the game, ran the tutorial, got suspicious when rolling was exaggerated, combat training confirmed something was probably wrong, came here to check if it was known and apparently it's been patched already.
Can't wait for the patch, good work.

Have been dealing with the same thing, and waiting almost a week now for the fix. Any idea exactly when this patch will come in? Or could I also get this "beta" patch to manually install in steam if possible? It's literally unplayable as is, and waiting a week after excitedly purchasing the game on a whim has left a sour taste in my mouth.

It's submitted, not sure how long it will take for it to be delivered via Steam. You can install the independent build now if you like as others have, then just launch and play. Then when Steam updates, it'll be there also.

Sweet, just downloaded the latest version and after some copy pasting I can confirm that it resolves the time acceleration issue on my machine as well. Good stuff, thanks Vice. From post: 125300, Topic: tid=8476, author=Marvin wrote:Vice always releases the latest version in a new thread on this forum. You download the "patch" ... which is, in fact, the whole game and simply install it over your current version. All the important stuff is saved ... the new version will not overwrite you pilot profiles. (Although, it's always a good idea to set aside any mods you've added and re-install them afterward.)
And thanks Marvin for explaining something that probably is explained elsewhere around here, it was all I needed to know.
Now I think I'll plug my TrackIR back in...

Been looking for this topic and can't seem to find it. I'm running the Steam version, and don't want to install to the wrong place (the manual install exe places it in a root folder on C:, which isn't where Steam does). From post: 125300, Topic: tid=8476, author=Marvin wrote:Vice always releases the latest version in a new thread on this forum. Help a Merc out and let me know where I can find the topic? Or if it isn't recommended to overwrite the Steam files, let me know.

I'm a vet Steamer, of sorts, so here's a small guide what I did to update the game. From post: 125354, Topic: tid=8476, author=Jaga wrote:Been looking for this topic and can't seem to find it. - Download the latest install at: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... nloads.htm
- Install it to a temporary location, for example C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary (the default)
- Go to the install location and select all files (ctrl+a) and copy them (ctrl+c)
- Go to the Evochron Mercenary Steam folder, if you've used default paths when installing Steam and using English Windows they should be:
For 64bit Windows: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\evochron mercenary
For 32bit Windows: C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\evochron mercenary - Paste the files (ctrl+v) and choose to replace any files that may already be there.
- Optional: Since you've got Steam you'll probably want to go uninstall the game at the temporary location to clean up a bit. I recommend that you do that by going through the start menu and click on uninstall in the Evochron Mercenary program group instead of going to 'Programs and Features' (Windows Vista/7) or 'Add/Remove Programs' (Windows XP and earlier) since Steam also adds its Evochron Mercenary game to those lists (could get confusing).
- Launch the game on Steam, play and have fun.
[/list=1]
I'm sure not all files were updated and maybe only the executable could've been copied but this is a pretty generic way to update your Steam game with any version that have yet to be pushed by Steams automatic updates. When the updates arrive they should be applied without any problems. If you like to revert to the older version Steam thinks you're at just verify the game cache (e.g. right-click game->Properties->Local Files->Verify Integrity of Game Cache...).
I'm also pretty certain that you can install the game directly into the Steam game folder but the above method is cleaner because of the optional step. Having separate uninstall logs refer to the same files as Steam manages is probably not a good idea if you ever plan to use them, and if you aren't then you might just avoid having them around in the first place.
Hope that helps.
EDIT:
Lol, just noticed the patch was deployed by steam an hour ago, you should have no problems then if you've got automatic updates enabled for EM.
