So I've been tinkering around getting to learn the game, and have looked through a lot of the stuff available online, but still have several basic questions.
if I have two stacks of anti-matter, is there anyway to combine them? I enjoy making and selling fuel converters, it's been quite lucrative for me so far, but am getting annoyed at the cargo space getting taken up.
My current combat strategy involves a lot of afterburner and drifting, would the afterburner drive be a good thing to get, or will it suck all of the systems energy?
Are excalibur missile packs worth it? Currently, I find myself not using a ton of missiles, unless I get annoyed/lazy.
I have out-fitted myself with a Legacy frame and currently am enjoying all of the knick-knacks. If I get two of the same type of crew-person, do their effects stack? Is there a way to make them fight to the death for my amusement?
Does anyone else start signing Gypsy Kings "Volare" when they see Volari?

Hi Kerblawrr and welcome!
I've been away from the game for a while and I'm more than a little rusty, but I'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge, and the others will correct me when they wake up
Combining stacks: yes. From the man himself (Vice, the game developer):
"Be docked at a station, city, or carrier, then hold the Alt key, then Right Mouse Click on the cargo you want to consolidate. "
(from this thread: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8429)
The afterburner uses energy only while you're using it (it also uses fuel). See discussion for example in this thread: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8398
Basically, it's a matter of taste. Try it out. Some people like it, others do fine without it. Once you settle on a specific style in combat, you'll see what works for you. The better you get in combat, the less drifting (far enough that you'd care to use the afterburner). Ofc, you can also use it for short distances, but if you're close enough to shoot, you probably are shooting, and don't have the energy to spare for the AB.
Try it out, it's cheap
Excalibur: as you may have noticed, the missiles refresh after 3 min. It's a matter of taste again. The obvious advantages are that you never run out, and you never have to pay to restock your missiles. The obvious disadvantages are that you can only use them once every three minutes, that you use all 8 of them at once (whether you like it or not), and that you are stuck with their damage, which is not the best.
So it's up to you. I'll point out that money is usually not an issue once you've been playing for a bit, so cost is not usually a significant factor.
I suggest you experiment with different missiles, and see what you like best. There's quite the variety to choose from.
One other factor is that, depending in what systems you find yourself, not all types may be available there. So you may want to store an excal pack in your cargo anyway, in case that wherever you are doesn't have the type of missiles you like when you're restocking.
Crew members: they do not stack. I didn't even know you _could_ take two of them onboard. Sadly, we're still waiting for Vice to implement their fighting to death.
You've seen Volari? I don't know, so far the only aliens I've met are Vonari, but it IS a big galaxy...
Welcome again, and enjoy the game! If you hop in multiplayer, folks may help you refine your combat skills, if you want, and most folks are friendly and helpful, so check that out, too!

Hi Kerblawrr, welcome to the game and forum...Hope to see you out there some time!.....

Flying Brick did a very good job of answering your questions. I just would like to add the following:
You can not have 2 of the same type of crew members. The only way to have 2 Engineers aboard for example is a hired one and a transport passenger one!......

Hi thanks for the responses.
I found out about the crew member pretty quick after posting haha.
Vonari, that's the one. I was still singing anyway. Thanks again for the info.

Kerblawwr - keep singing, the Vonari might be susceptible to sonic attacks...
