Forum rather slow

Post by Viper »

I guess this is mainly addressed to Vice:

I've noticed that the forum has been quite slow for me in loading pages lately. It has been like that for a week or two now, before that pages loaded almost instantly.

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. I have meanwhile done a complete fresh install of Windows and other sites are fast as they should be, so I don't see how it can be my end.

Just to be sure I performed a connection test, here's the result:
Image
Performing like it should, although I'm sure a test to an overseas server would turn out quite slower. Where's the server for the forum located? So I can try a test to there and see whether it's the overseas connection.

Any idea what might be causing this recent issue?

Thanks.

Mine loads slow too ... on and off. I also sometimes get a "disconnect" message ... but the back arrow usually fixes it.

Was wondering about this too, though no disconnects as of yet.

 I'm not sure why I get a "disconnect" message when it seems to be more of a "page failed to load" type problem.

My work INTERNET was so slow it would not even load the speed test this morning but that is in regard to all web sites not the forum. We have T1 or better but our firewall slows things down a lot also.:(

I haven't had a slowdown here at all, and I'm on the forums quite a bit! weird how the internets behave.

 The browser might have something to do with it. I'll be upgrading mine this weekend to see if it helps.

I'm using Firefox and it's pretty fast on most other sites, on here it's quite a bit slower. I tried Google Chrome and even though overall it's a bit faster than Firefox, it is also slower on here than on other sites.

I'm using IE ... version 8, I think. Whatever version is one less than what Microsoft keeps telling me I should upgrade to when doing a Windows Update.

The forum has been performing slower than normal for about the last two weeks. I've been in contact with the host to follow up on it.

Don't upgrade to IE9. Pages crash then reopen with a stupid message saying the page crashed and was then reopened all the time since I let it install. IE8 is better IMO.

 Thanks ... I'll stick with 8. It's always a bummer, spending time writing a post ... only to have the page crash and the text go the way of the dodo.

For me it's been a longish pause on "waiting for Starwraith etc" then the page appears quickly. On other slow sites I normally just see the page being created slowly :)

There are other browsers that are way better than IE. Firefox and Chrome are probably the most popular ones. They are much more stable and best of all, not made by Micro$oft.
Personally I use Firefox and I don't even know what a page crash looks like.

I thought I'd point out that today the forum seems to be quite a bit quicker on the load than it has been recently.

I run 8 on my XP but 9 on my Win7 and each works well so far.:)

For your interest:

After a period of performing well, it has been extremely slow for the last couple of days - even slower than before. Apart from that I seem to get a lot of '503' error messages, with the text:

Yes, the server is getting hit hard with traffic. Most of the time, you can click refresh to load the page. I would suggest copying any posts to the clipboard before posting in case the forum goes 503 at any point, so you can save your message and try again.

I suppose it's a problem we should be happy to have (assuming there's no affordable solution!) :D

Don't know about the other guys, but for me the forum performance has increased a lot over the last few days. It's quite quick now. Could be because I reinstalled Windows, but then again I was not the only one noticing the decrease in speed. Something seems to have changed for the better though.
