I like Jazz, but I'm not a huge fan of it like I am of DNB. I appreciate all forms of music, except Pop Music for many reasons.

I like many styles of Music, the definition of music is however nowadays very relative! I prefer to define music as on the classical side. I like some Country, Jazz, Blues, Soft Rock, Ambient, Newage, World, Easy listening, Reggae
some Hip Hop. And I like only very little of Rap, Electronic, Techno, Hard Rock, Heavy metal or Dead-metal!
For this last group that I like very little the ones I like have to be more than just noise and screaming and not damaging to the ears!.....;):P:cool:

I'm a jazz saxophonist myself so guess where my vote went? I'm an old guy so I'm sure your've heard what I have to say a million times so lets make it a million and one. I still have a hard time defining Rap as music. Two bars that repeat themselve for 5 minutes while some one swears and talks about slapping there lady friend around in rhyme is more like ugly poetry to me. Techo...I thought music was supposed to be composed by humans not machines. When computers can feel I sure it will get better. Country... some good stuff there. At least it comes from the heart. Classic... well probably mans greatest achievement in music. Mozart, Beethoven pure genius. Where is that today? Who today writes some of their greatest works after losing their hearing?? Rock... A tremendous amount of feel and lotsa talent. The dawning of a new age in music which hasn't change much in 40 years. Death Metal... You have a problem with LIFE but a little talent in the early works.

Sorry but music seem to be regressing... Two hundred years ago a deaf guy walked into a field and heard in his head and immediately wrote down a symphony in grand staff for 20 to 30 musicians .... and he wasn't even the best of the lot.

Music now... Well if you're ugly you ain't going to make it. Janis Joplin would have never made it not that I thought she was that great but a lot of people at the time did. If you're beautiful and have a miniscule amount of talent you got a shot.

Sorry if I offended some of you. Music can be a touchy subject. If it makes you feel good go with it. If it makes you want to slap someone seek help.

Well, I voted for the part I like most and where most of the music I listen and play fall in. Rock, hard rock and metal.

However, I like a wide range of musicor many genres, sweeping from Classical music (the closest genre to metal IMHO), to Blues, to some Folk and Songwriters too.

It's kinda reductive to pick only one.
Best regards

I like the more classical music too. Mostly Jazz or Rock as I play guitar myself. I don't like all that techno stuff.

I can understand that a lot of you won't really appreciate Electronic "aka Techno know by most" because it wasn't your generation's music or like one of you said it repeats to much. However, there are a lot of electronic songs that don't have a repeating beat, that are made by actual human beings. :D

It's not a generation thing IMO. I believe music is an art form. Computers aren't at the point where they can actually create art with feeling. Granted they can elicit a very strong emotion I'll give it that, but I need a living thing behind the music to really appreciate it. A songbird or a cricket can do better.

As Blues/Motown/ proper R'n'B (ie The Lady Aretha!) is not listed and Meat Loaf should be a genre all on his own, I have voted for Jazz/Big band and swing. It is only the Big band and Swing though. Jazz just does not do it for me.

@Mec, how old are you? I am <cough>mid thirties <cough> and can well remember Techno of the 90's. The best example of "bad" Techno has got to be 2 Unlimited

I remember singing "there's no lyrics". But I was young then. Ah, memories!

Oh, and I think you need to add X Factor to the list as that just defies music in so many ways that somebody must like it. :D

Speed thrash is my favorite.

Megadeth's and Trivium's last albums are awesome.

And I like to listen Kreator, they are darn good!

I hope I can give you our band's link very soon, we are almost done ;)

Heh, this should bee multiple choice :P

I'd tick everything but country, buuut since its just single choice, I'd have to go with metal. To be specific: industrial/black/death metal tickles my ears the way I like.

kinda off-topic-ish, but: http://www.last.fm/user/Malix
maybe Evochron last.fm group to keep tabs? :P

EDIT: now that I accidentally searched evochron on last.fm, I found out the soundtracks composers website and... holy spaceships batman, evochron soundtrack freely downloadable. MUST. GET. http://richdouglas.net/projects/evochron.php

I'm still young here, 18 and born into a more electronic age of music, opposite of my mainstream generation which likes crappy pop music most of my fellow high school students listen to. The thing about my generation is they will like one genre of music for 4 years then switch over to an different one for the next 4 years. Everyone in my generation used to be into rap and hip hop, but now they grow their hair long and listen to crappy pop music, I just didn't find people like Justin Bieber to be actual artists. I'm more of DNB myself, but any Electronic genre suits me fine. I'm not into 90's techno and old pioneers like Daft Punk. I'm more into modern Electronic Music either heavily known or not very popular. Some Electronic Artists have made it into the mainstream in their own grounds like Deadmau5 mostly a House artist, Skrillex a Dubstep artist, and Tiesto a Trance artist.

This is what I consider to be good DNB, like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uezVBPou ... plpp_video and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcYEhT3w ... re=related which is a little more of a chill DNB than the first link.

Sorry Dingo, there are to many genres out there for me even to know or list :P
I should have but Indie up there in general though.

 The electronic age has been around for quite awhile. Check the bottom entry for this guy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Hyman ... onic.2FPop

And music for the best science fiction movie ever made came from these two:
