Please Respond: Evochron Vent Server?

Post by zonaiko »

I'm surprised that no one seems interested in a Vent server for Evochron. I mean, it's really awesome that there's in-game voicechat, but it's really no comparison to Ventrilo or a similar program.

There are a lot of benefits to using Ventrilo...

-You can adjust the volume of everyone else individually, so if one person is too loud and another too quiet, you can equalize them out.

-For me, I like putting on my headset and having Vent come through my headset while the game comes through my speakers, so Vent will always come through crystal clear and loud, even if I like having my game volume turned up.

-You can adjust your inbound mic volume in the program without touching the Windows settings, in case you already have it perfectly calibrated for another program.

-People can see who's logged into Vent, so you know who has voicechat capability right away.

-You can voicechat with your friends, even if you don't feel like loading the game up.

-You can talk to people in Vent no matter where they are in the game.

-You can create separate channels in Vent for different events, clans, etc. Or just to have a private place to talk.

-Vent is very lightweight and has amazing sound quality. (I'm sorry, but it really is better quality than the in-game voicechat. And I'm pretty sure it takes up less bandwidth.)

-You can set it up for hands-free talking, so only a certain decibel level will turn on your mic and begin transmitting. Meaning, you don't have to use push-to-talk, and people won't hear you breathing the entire time.

So what's not to love about it? What's everyone else's thoughts on trying to make Vent a standard for Evochron?

Please reply with honest and specific reasons, not just that "Vent sucks" or "in-game is better."

Thanks!

Sounds like TeamSpeak. What's the difference?

I don't know much about ventrillo, but team speak was a bit difficult due to some players using in-game chat, and some using TS. Also created a bunch of strange echos. Also takes up more system resources. Not a problem for me, but for some it would be.

I agree with you on all those points bro. Ventrilo is an excellent use of comms as I have used it and teamspeak back in my WoW days and I'm surprised not many people use it in this game. I believe Bossk still runs his vent server and is available to pilots here. I cant stand typing myself and rather chat, as I'm used to it when I play xbox live lol.

I think Bossk runs a TS server, not a vent server. Unless he runs both. I'm been on the BA TS anyway.

Yep, The BA TS server is still up and running. Area 51 has been free to use by any pilot who wishes to. There are currently 2 channels set up. The default free for all and BA's very own secure channel. If you want to pop on the details are in my sig. Dengar wants people to use it as the machine is at his place and it is "costing a fortune in electricity!" (it does not really cost much, but he like to moan. Makes him feel important.)

We only run TS2 as it is far easier to set-up and use, even if the voice quality is not as amazing as TS3, it works.
