Few question that will help me decide.

Can you own muliple ships?

How easy is the game to mod?

How complex is the trade and econemy in the game?

Hi and welcome.

1 - You can store 1 ship in each station/city for a fee, so yes.
2 - There is a modkit that helps you a lot, even I have created my own cockpit!:P
Some great modders have even made their own ship frames, but I have no idea how to do that.
3 - It is not to complicated. Economy is presented on the onboard navmap.
You can also do Mining for profit, mine materials and dock with a constructor station where
they build different items for you so you can sell them a ta station or city.

It's a great open sanbox where you can do whatever you want.
PvP fighting, fighting in a group together, connect with another friend and one pilots the other is gunning.
It is a huge space to explore as well.

Hope this helps you on your way to a decision.

Hope to see you out there.;)

 Evochron Mercenary isn't X-3. Many of the strong points of EM don't even exist in X-3. For example, you can explore planets, dock at cities, engage in atmospheric combat ... all seamlessly (no transition scenes). Or you can explore the entire EM universe ... again, seamlessly (no boxy star sectors and no need to use jumpgates to get from one star system to another ... although you can use gates if you like).

You can hire ships to your fleet. I have never tried it so someone else might give
you a better answer. You can not fly or command any capital ships.

You an do contracts (missions) to assist or escort capitol ships.

Nope, the intent of Evochron is direct control gameplay with localized tactical interactive options, not remote control order giving as though a fleet RTS. If issuing orders and controlling/commanding slow moving/turning cap ships is what you're after, X3 would certainly be the better fit.

 In single-player, you can hire AI pilots (NPCs) and give them orders. Orders to attack an enemy. Orders to do some mining for you. Maybe other orders, too. But most of the guys here are multiplayer addicts and prefer to operate in the company of other players. So they seldom make use of a hired fleet.

Yo CrazE! Please try the demo, at least. Really, you owe it to yourself to try out this offering. Sorry, no Cap-Ship pilotage, as has been alliterated. But, it's a LARGE game universe, with lots of room, for lots of "styles" and characters. ;) Being able to choose, rather than being lead around by the nose, has it's own advantage. :P:P:P:P:P :cool:

 It is a very large universe. Unfortunately, you only get to explore a small part of it in the demo. But you can get an idea of how big it is by going to your Navigation Console and checking out the Quadrant Map. Keeping in mind that even the Quadrant Map doesn't cover the whole galaxy.

Let me add to this as a some-times X3 player.

- Evochron universe is just as big as X3, probably bigger due to not needing to use jump gates if you dont want and lots of hidden systems not connected to gates, not to mention blackholes and wormholes.
-The economy of x3 is vastly more developed, since that is what egosoft focused on most.
-Combat is much much much more fun in Evochron
- the UI and control scheme is vastly more user friendly and intuitive than X3
- Evochron has free multiplayer, and saves transfer seamlessly between SP and MP modes

Both games are fun. Evochron is funnerer. That's a real word, look it up.

Can you own muliple ships?
You can own as many as you like. I don't know how many slots there are for all of your characters, but I'm guessing 99.
How easy is the game to mod?
That would depend on your skills more than the game I guess lol. Vice has been kind enough to make the game close to fully modable (not sure if that's a word but if it isn't, it is now). Ships, ship textures, your HUD, the cockpit, planets, asteroids, nebula's, backdrops, audio and probably most of the rest too lol. Along with that there are even elaborate instructions how to exactly mod the files, and a 'customizing kit' that holds everything you need.
How complex is the trade and econemy in the game?
I'm not sure what your view of 'complex' is, so I find it somewhat difficult to answer that. I am also not as informed as some of the others. But what I do know is that the economy is dynamic. It also responds to which type of stations you as a player construct, and which clan has the most power in a sector ( I think). There's probably a lot more to it than that, so it comes down to what you see as complex I guess.

One thing I can clearly tell you: I have played the X series and was a great fan - I have the Superbox. And I would choose Evochron over any of the X editions anytime.

You can always try out the trial to see if it's something you would like. You can play it as many times as you install it. I think you won't be disappointed.

Hi Crazyewok, welcome to the Evochron Forum and hopefully the game. The game imho is the best space simulation game worth every penny. Try the free Demo and Training and if you decide to buy the game I'll look forward seeing you out there!....;)

Very importantly, in the Evochron games, space FEELS like space. Its big and open. You aren't trapped in a little box, and despite my advice that Vice take out planets entirely, currently you can seamlessly land on them. There is also the very real possibility taht you can discover systems and planets that nobody have ever been to before, That's pretty darn cool!

Ok I'm half convinced :P Next question how dynamic is the AI ? Do they just randomly spawn or are there triggers and shipyards which they come from? And does the AI war?

Say you have a hostile rep towards the Navy (tends to happen to me a lot lol :( ). Whenever you have a (red) Navy ship on your sensors, it will "communicate your position to other ships and affiliated stations in the area, which will then dispatch more ship to attack you". This is why you will see a hostile ships jumping to your location in large numbers when you have a hostile reputation with one of the factions. Be on guard with this when doing contracts, if you're hostile to say the Navy and are doing a contract against the Rebels, the Navy will still try to intercept you and you might end up with a 'few' more hostiles in your viewscreen. Make sure to only fire at the ships you're suppose to destroy, or you will wreck your rep with the Navy even more.

To answer your second question: yes, they do. Vonari ships enter 'friendly' space all the time. When that happens, factions which are hostile to it will attack the intruder.
Personally I haven't seen spontaneous (ie not as part of a contract) battles between large fleets of hostile ships, but I bet someone else could tell you about that.

The AI are very Dynamic!. They roam the Universe and depending on your reputation you can build with certain factions of the AI, they can be very Hostile, Moderate or Friendly. So you can say the trigger is your reputation and presence close to a Station, Planet or an Object that has comunication abilities like Ships, Capital Ships, Constructor Stations etc......;):P:cool:

IIRC, in X-3 you could see the AI coming. You could also follow them to otherwise hidden gates. In EM, the AI usually jump into a populated sector and exit the same sector while still fairly close to a trade station. The trigger is probably your own entry into the sector ... or your having just built a trade station of your own.

Ok final questions I promise.

Its stated you can own mulitple ships and freighters?

Well can you get freighters and other ships to do things like transport goods while you do something else were? Or do you have to micro manage everything?

And it mentioned theres a cap of 99 ships? Is that modale to increase?

99 different profiles were more like it. You can own many ships, but you must store them in hangars and fly one at a time. And no you can't order freighters to do anything like what you asked. You can however greatly customize your own ship. This game is extremely fun and worth every penny, but it is not an economic sim as such.

I do hope you give it a try, as it is worth it, but I don't want you to be mislead.
