What it feels like to fly over Earth

Post by Nigel_Strange »

Look carefully at the space above the earth in the middle of the screen. You will notice an object come into view just before the end of the movie. That object is moving relative to the background.

What is it? Obviously, a UFO (until it is identified). Can anyone tell what it is? It is more clear in this "fluid" version of the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdDEpC0u ... re=related

The object seems like it is traveling with our satelite. I wonder if it is another satelite that is visible only when the sunlight hits it. In any case, I thought I should point it out.

Thanks for the vid, Mecingo.

:o You mean the object flying left to right, fifty seconds into the clip? I think that's the missing dox.

Anybody know what the orbit of the station is? Would be nice to know the land masses it is over in this clip and to identify the cities. Those storms look impressive!

There is one clip where a girl Megan labels the cities as it flies over them. The Station is moving from North(Bottom of Screen) to South(Top of Screen) over Canada, USA, Costa Rica, Panama, South America...etc...to the South Pole.;):cool:

It is the reflection of a star or light point in the lens of the camera or window because it is moving at the same speed as the Station from left to right so I would agree with Marvin on this one......;):P, Could also be another Satelite moving at the same altitude which explains the same speed it is moving at as the station.....;):P

There is so much junk in orbit now they have trouble tracking it all. It could be anything.
I don't deny the probability that there is life on some other planet in some other system, but I cannot accept that they would make the trip, then decide to fly low, turn on all the lights, and scare the crap outta Phoenix!
Either they would say "Hello" or not. There would be no need to "pop up here & there".
It is in our psyche to hope and want to meet ET and while "he" may be out there, I am confident that he would announce himself in a muich more direct and indesputable way. :)

:cool: MMaggio, you assume an alien visitor would land in some freedom-loving country. Not some place that locks up anyone who wanders across their border.

Most people have not realized their are many strange objects orbiting Earth, but all are satellites. Different government agencies and countries have different models and designs for their satellites, many look like something out of a SciFi movie, but nothing extraterrestrial. There is also debris from old satellites floating around.

There is probably more than that. My theory is if a alien race is monitoring us, it doesn't want any political part with us since we are to busy killing our own flesh. I imagine such a advance race, would spend most of it's time on research and technological development, and not waste it's time on arguing over fair tales, starting wars over fairy tales and imaginary friends, and killing each other over territory. This race would be much more civilized then us I imagine, but i could be wrong.

:cool: Alien races don't need to be civilized to us ... just civilized to each other. And, if they follow the "survival of the fittest" model of evolution ... well, that would leave them a lot more time, energy and whatever they use for money to develop into a space-going species.

When I use the term UFO, I mean precisely what I mean: unidentified flying object. This means that it is flying and it is not identified, nothing more. I did not mean to imply visiting space aliens.

People, we are conditioned to make assumptions like this. Fight that conditioning. It clouds thinking.

I wonder if it is a reflection.

As for evolution: survival of the fittest teaches us that the most brutal, nasty, aggressive, deadly, dangerous, and mean things are the ones that seem to kill off their competition in order to achieve dominance. I would not want to meet anything that had evolved to the point where it has developed interstellar travel, as it would most certainly spell our doom.

Great video ! :)

I remember a video sent by the astronaut Frank De Winne (from ISS)... he's answering a question :

What do you feel when you see our planet from the space ?

=> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFUJxY_O_q8 (amazing !)

And this one, the Earth from Space (20 min of awesome videos sent from ISS) :

=> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9p1_WZ-bRo

Beautiful blue planet :cool:

Oh sorry... (it was a nice trip with high quality images) :(

For forgiveness, I can give you the link for another nice trip : the film First Orbit :

=> http://www.firstorbit.org/
A real time recreation of Yuri Gagarin's pioneering first orbit, shot entirely in space from on board the International Space Station. The film combines this new footage with Gagarin's original mission audio and a new musical score by composer Philip Sheppard.
Enjoy the flight of Yuri Gagarin, with the real audio transmissions !
...and imagine what he was thinking when he asked several times if they could hear well on Earth, and no one answered !
Loneliness which was installed at this time (around 24'30") :o

PS : You can watch the film on Youtube, or download it for free on the website (also in full HD) ;)

:o Tell it to the Vogons. The Prime Directive doesn't seem to apply when it comes to urban renewal.

The Prime Directive of the Goa'uld is: "Prostrate yourself before you God, mortal - or die a horrible death"

The Prime Directive of SkyNet is snappier and straight to the point: "Die". This is translated by their operative branch, the Terminators, into Spanish as "Hasta La Vista . . . . babee!" spoken in a thick Austrian American accent!

All in all the evidence we have isn't very promising for a happy introduction to the interGalactic Civilisation out there. Its representitives visit us in strange glowing blobs seen in the sky. Strangely, after travellong many, many light years they choose to contact very low IQ country folk in the Southern States of the USA, usually at night. Our visitors then proceed to poke things into various human orrifices!

Perhaps we should just keep our heads down! :D
