[EM] Runtime Error 7018, game crashes just at the beginning!

Post by maiser »

Hello,

My first time over here. I bought the game 3 days ago, but haven´t been able to run it yet :s.

The problem i am having is this:
Runtime Error 7018 - Could not load 3D object al line 665896".
The game just crashes when reaching 94% load generally.

I saw that it could be matter of ram, but in my case not possible, i have 2,3 GB free atm. Also i have finished all the "non-system" runned processes, to check if the interference was coming from there, but seems that no. I haven´t tried to finish system ones, as i may do something wrong.

My specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3072MB RAM
Nvidia 9600 Gt 512 Mb
Windows xp home edition

------------------
So...can someone help me?

Always be sure to specify which game you are referring to and which version when posting in this forum. I know which game you are referring to, but it helps others when searching for an answer to the same problem.

Remember that it isn't how -much- memory you have available on your system, it can be how much consecutive memory you have available. There is likely something else running on your system that is blocking the upper 700-900 MB range of memory on your system, resulting in blocking the game when it tries to load the required object at about the 94% mark. If you would like me to review your configuration for possible causes, follow the steps here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/faq.htm#8

Hi Maiser, welcome to the game and forum. Hope you will get the game up and running and hope to see you out there when you do!.....;)

Your Computer system seems to be at the border for acceptable play. My system when it had 4GB of RAM and running Windows Xp 32 bit with a Saphire ATI Radeon X1300 with 512MB RAM and Intell Dual core CPU 930D running at 3.00 Ghz. I had trouble most of the time with all the in Game Graphics settings to high! You might get it to work by setting your in game settings to lowest possible first and then move them up to see what the best settings are for your system.

Now I have 8GB of RAM upgrade with dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7 64 bit and a ATI Radeon 512MB X1900XTX and the game works fine now. I still get occasional frame rate drops below playable levels but it is not like before.

Yes, i told i tried to stop all "non system" process and deactivate anti virus. Should i stop "system" processes with control+alt+supr to try? Isn´t that too bad for pc? I have Mercenary and last version with it(i know because i got in on impulse).

It won't likely be a system process (unless its a background service for a security program that is causing the interference). Did you try lower detail settings? Specifically, I'd suggest lowering the Planet Detail setting down to 'Low' and start from there.

Hiya mate and welcome.

If you suspect it to be a process interfering, try running the game, and when the loading progress is close to where the problem occurs, alt-tab out, open up your task manager and check which process it is that is eating up your cpu or RAM. Certain programs like in particular some anti-virus ones have processes that lay dormant until you run something else. Then they suddenly begin scanning and checking the lot and eat up your cpu.

But to be honest, judging by your description I also suspect it to be related to the performance limits of your computer. Like described above, I would turn down some settings that have a large impact on your computer and start working your way up from there.

Good luck sorting it, and hope to see you on MP some time. ;)

:o I run Mercenary, full up, on a computer with even fewer resources. And my Norton runs in the background ... but I make sure its auto-update function is disabled. As is every auto-update for other programs ... even those that don't show up on the Task Bar (Adobe Reader being a good example).

I'm running an old Win XP with only 2 gigs of memory and I can play the game just fine.

Mmm...tried in my windows 7 partition, and it runs all full. Dam, games that go to.....40 fps in my windows xp partition go to 5 in windows 7 ones(drivers i suppose) and i can run this game all full :). So yes, it must be a program interfering. Will try to format the pc soon so i can play it everywhere.

 I don't trust Windows 7 ... so I accepted the default requirement of entering a password when booting up. I assume, being as I'm the only user of this computer, that the computer (meaning, Windows 7) assumes I'm the administrator (or whatever you call it). Ergo, whenever I install a program, it behaves properly. Including Mercenary.

:o But ... wait. Windows 7 uses far more resources compared to Windows XP. That could be a problem if your computer specs are as posted. 'Cause I was comparing them to my desktop, running on Windows XP ... which is just about the same as yours and it runs Mercenary just fine. Under XP.
