Space opera shows? Still marketable?

General discussion (space-sim gaming, astronomy, and sci-fi entertainment in general, etc.).

Space opera shows? Still marketable?

Post by sundalo »

Alright, last great space show that delivered the goods IMO was Battlestar Galactica, but lately space operas haven't seen a revival ever since the series ended. There's supposed to be a Galactica movie in the works, but other than that, nothing. Is it really hard to sell this beloved genre anymore on television even on film?

Other than BSG and Firefly, I can't think of any recent space opera. My favorite genre of entertainment too. pity.

Space and the shenanigans that fictionally occur there have been on a steady slide.

Ya, before BSG, I was all over Babylon 5 LOL, wish they would make a star wars series during the old republic with the Jedi and sith conflicts.

 Janeway isn't the lead ... any more than Jamie the bionic woman (also in the same series). But the lead-in to Warehouse 13, Eureka, is going strong. As is my old standby favorite: Doctor Who. The Doctor could've whopped up on both sides of BSG and come out the winner.

I didn't say she was "the" lead just in a lead role as a leader who runs all the warehouses.;)

 That wasn't the warehouse. That was a supposed hideaway inside a big tower building in some city (I forget the name of the city ... probably not Reno). The warehouse is like all IM's territory: it's out in the boondocks.

LOL....Now this thread is becoming a Space Opera.......I like Warehouse 13 better then Eureka for some reason.
Both are completely unrealistic but Warehouse 13 seems to make it more credible in a serious funny way, while Eureka seems to make it less credible in a humourus way.....as for Janeway, she plays leader roles very well...;):P

 The only really neat thing about Warehouse 13 is the Tesla pistol. And the "cell phone" ... I'll take one of each.
