Question about add-on quests

Post by SpeedFreek »

Hi,

I have finished the in-game quest and was about to install the IMG Quest for Peace when I read the instructions and it mentioned having to clone my profile if I want to do other quests in the future like SeeJay's quest.

I hadn't noticed SeeJay's quest, so I went to check it out and am interested in doing that one too.

So, my question is, if I do SeeJay's quest next, can I then do the IMG quest afterwards with the same pilot profile, or do I still have to use a cloned profile whatever order I do the quests in?

Question about add-on quests

Post by SeeJay »

Hi Speed.

My quest isn't finished yet.
It will start where the original IMG ended. (continue).
If you haven't done/finished the IMG it forces you to do so. (It's included).
Save a profile when IMG is finished since you may need it for other quests.

The IMG Quest for Peace also takes off where IMG left you.

The Race that Marvin is setting up requires a clean profile (No previous quest progress).

Edit. Corrections on Quest for Peace.

Question about add-on quests

Post by SpeedFreek »

Thanks SeeJay.

So, to make sure I understand properly:

I have just finished the IMG Quest, so I should save a separate profile at this stage, in order to keep a profile where *JUST* the IMG Quest has been completed. Then, I can clone that profile to use for other quests that continue where the IMG Quest left off, like the Quest for Peace, or your quest when it is finished.

But if I want to do Marvin's Race, I'll need a profile with no previous quest progress, i.e. a profile where I haven't even started the built-in quest that comes with the game? If that is the case it means I will have to create a new pilot from scratch then.

Is that right?

That is correct my friend.
I have started a new profile as well, LOL!
Just in case I'm around when he starts the race.
You just need to work it up to the level that you can buy the frame that
you want.

I have no idea if it's possible to clone a profile and "remove" any quest progress.
That's for Vice to answer I guess.

Would it work (per profile) by swapping out the quest.txt file in the sw3dg game folder? I've got just a few of those in various stages of completion, (from Zero to Hero) in back-up folders. :)

I don't think the quest.txt file has anything to do with it.
The profile saves any progress in quests you have (number of quest progress).

If you have completed IMG (25 steps) and then switch to another
quest-file that starts at scratch (0), then you'll jump in at progress 26 in
that quest and miss the first 25.

You need to have a profile with no quest progress to do Marvins race.

Copy on Marvin's Race, and the profile hook-up. Had a hunch on the inter/intra-relationship with the profiles and quest.txt file(s). Thanks for your info, SJ. :)

 SeeJay has it correct. Your progress in any quest is saved to your profile by numbers (I call them steps). Once you've reached a certain step, you can't backtrack. The Quest for Peace starts at a higher number ... exactly where the default IMG quest leaves off. They are in sync.

;) When I created the five maps for the rally, I started with step one ... and, of course, had to create a profile from scratch to test each one. Which reminds me: who will be available next Sunday for the rally? It takes about an hour to complete.
