[EM] runtime error 502

Post by cybot »

i keep keep getting runtime error 502 crashes. 99% of the time it's while i'm in the shipyard building a new ship.

full error reads as follows:

Runtime Error 502 - Image does not exist at line 61927

this is a really annoying error.
anyone else encounter this error?
is there a solution?

Are you using any mods? If not, then your system is likely running out of memory. Check the physical amount available in msinfo32. Solutions are to free up more physical memory or reduce the detail settings in the Options menu.

I'd be very surprised if i was running out of memory since i have 8GB of Ram and a nvidia card with 1 GB of dedicated video memory (none of that shared video memory shared with ram crap). and no i'm not running any mods ill post my msinfo info shortly

here is the the msinfo file from my system, also i've included a link to the detailed product specifications for my system the page is in pdf format. I customized my system, so all the optional components were included except for a modem and the ssd. i chose to get the best options availible fo the computer. The link to the specs for my system:
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/satellite_P500-ST6844.pdf

the attached msinfo file was compressed and broken up with 7zip because the nfo file was 2mb and the compressed file was still to large. if another compression format is neccessary, please let me know . incase you don't know or have 7-zip the site for it is http://7-zip.org/

i don't know why but my attached files keep getting renamed.
proper names are as follows
file 1: msinfo for cybot's system.7z.001
file 2: msinfo for cybot's system.7z.002

file is best opened with 7-zip

 Having tried sending files via 7-zip myself, I can say from experience it's probably better to use the "zip" format.

Yup, zip and e-mail the msinfo to me for review.

While you may not be running out of memory, something else running on your system may be blocking memory points the game needs. The error you report indicates something may have blocked memory where the game needs to render backbuffer details. This could possibly be caused by a driver glitch, but more likely it would be some other program causing interference. You can always try updating or rolling back the video driver you are using to test a different one, then restore it if it turns out not to be the cause.

i've sent an email to vice containing a .zip of the .nfo file plus a screenshot of the error message.

the weird thing about this error is it appears to happen randomly. sometimes it will do it while i'm trying to change my ship in the shipyard, othertimes i can go through and make all the changes i want with out a crash. it doesn't appear to be something i can make happen consistently.

That's often a confirming sign of interference from something else running on the system. I'll watch for your e-mail.

i just checked my nvidia settings and it was set for "let application decide". the PhysX selector was set to "auto" however. i've found i get better performance by selecting the video card as the PhysX device. it must have gotten turned back to "auto" last time I upgraded drivers. i don't know if ev:m uses a physics engine or utilizes PhysX stuff. so those settings maybe irrelevant
