I have been working on retexuring the civilian and military ships for the past week or so, I am not finished yet but I thought I would show what I have so far. Some parts may change, also note the colors don't look quite as intense in game as they do in the pic.

Looking good mate! I like the worn down look you got going on, with the stains and scuff marks, looks realistic. Although in my view it could even use some more of that, a ship that has been in space is probably covered with it, but that's my view. Put a screeny up whenever you have one in game, I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Yes this is a retexture of the ship models, this is for the civilian frame and parts. I will try and get a screenshot or two of it in game, although it will not look 100% since the specular and normal maps aren't started yet.

Yeah i basically took the style from my head, but I would guess it's influenced by Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and the modern Space Shuttle.
I plan to make two version, the current version with the red accent color that changes depending on the color, and one set where the body color changes (similar to the current)
Judging by the screenshots I'm not the only one who cant figure out the vanilla ship parts UV layouts. On a side note, if you modeled all the parts from scratch you could use your own UV sets so that your texture actually fit the ships rather than getting splashed randomly across the mesh :/ I feel your pain, the texture itself looks great, but without a uv layout its just everywhere
