Okay, no laughing please, but I've made some replacement frames. I've also made custom hull textures to go with them.

I've also made some custom wings, shields, and cargo bays, although it's hard to tell in the pics. I've tried to scale everything so that when the game generates an AI ship, it won't look strange.

The top two show one of my custom frames, and two of my wing sets. The bottom three show my military replacement frames.

I don't have names for them since they just replace the in game meshes. As you can tell, I like my ships to be VERY airplane-like (sue me, I like airplanes :) ).

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I still need to fiddle with the UV mapping on them. Not entirely pleased so far.

For those of you who are interested, I did these in Blender. I exported them as an OBJ, then opened them in Lithunwrap. I then saved them as a direct X file with no compression and viola! Easy as cake.

Easy as cake." into some form of English, I am greatly motivated to try this modding lark myself! Actually, I understand the" piece of cake" bit but it sounds a bit Michelin 3 Star at the moment :P

Thanks guys, I'll probably release them after a little more tweaking. In all, I've got 3 replacement frames, 3 replacement wing units, new cargo bays and new shields. For the Military Frames I've got 4 replacements. Oh, in case you didn't notice, I've got the StarWraith games logo as the Military insignia... ;)

Wow, very cool! Personally, I kind of like the 'airplane' look. (and it serves as a practical design element, since we can land on planets and all ;) ) Keep it up!

Changing frames and also some parts of the civillian ships is really great idea, please keep it up.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. It means alot coming from this community of very talented modders. As soon as I'm happy with them, I'll upload them somewhere. If I can tear myself away from playing for awhile.... :)

Does anyone know if Evochron supports "smoothing"? These shots don't show it, but I've tried and it doesn't seem to show up in the game.

I'll release when I'm satisfied with them...okay, I'll never be really satisfied. I'll release when I'm tired of messing with them. :)

Well, I'm completely self-taught (if that's not already evident). Just download Blender (free) and have a go. That's what I did. I found that I really enjoyed it. Blender can be a bit daunting, but after having used 3DMax, Maya, and a few others, I find I still like Blender more.

Granted, my stuff is not that complicated, and not very detailed compared to most modelers out there, but I just do it for me.

I seriously recommend anyone who is the least bit interested to try it out. We always need new modders!

Agreed. Blender is a bit ridiculous, especially if you're not familiar with modeling programs or dont want to drop the money on 3DSmax which has a slightly simpler interface.

But yeah, we do need more modders, i dabble in modding, but i come from the whole minecraft modding scene, and the way mods work in EM will take some getting used to.

No laughing here, these are great! Always nice to see original ideas. Do you have any problems with AI ships having floating parts or did you cover that while building?
