Runtime Error 3002. Game wont load. *FIXED*
Hello there!
I've just recently bought the game after reading a review, and decided to skip the demo altogether and get the full thing. However, i can't play the game because everytime i create a new profile the game crashes with the aforementined error. When i reload the game, i find the profile created. I try to load it, and i crash again.
I have tried to reinstall it, but no dice. Saw two different threads regarding this exact same issue, but neither were too much help.
I've downloaded the instaler from atomic gamer (think thats the name, hehe), and haven't tried downloading from starwraith because its too slow. I only get speeds of 5 to 8kb/s with a 1mb connection.
I have attached my DxDiag report.

Please follow the steps out here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/faq.htm#8
And also attach the pilot profile to the same e-mail and include the reference ID for your license in the message field.

Oh, thanks for the quick reply!
I've sent the email as requested. I was, however, unable to find a file related to my pilot profile.

Reply sent. One thing to try in the meantime is right click on the game's desktop icon, then left click on 'Run as administrator'. For some reason, certain non-default installers seem to apply some kind of restriction to the game that prevents it from loading certain media files into memory (3002 is usually sound related). If that step doesn't work, download the default installer from here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... nloads.htm Install the game using default settings, then launch it as administrator again to test.

Yeah, i've seen the available documentation on the other threads regarding this same issue, and tried the steps there (short of downloading from the main-site, hehe). But to no avail. I am downloading the installer right now from starwraith.com and trying to reinstall from the installer i got before, but keeping the default path.
Oh, and thanks for the welcome! I'm probably going to play a little bit solo (Need the solo time hehe, bought the game to take a break from EVE) but i'll probably go online after some time!

Lets cover the basics then (covering system damage and blocked memory resources):
- Run a system file scan on your computer. Click on Start > Run/Search > type in SFC /SCANNOW and press enter. You should see the program scan your system's files to make sure they are intact. If you don't see this and a window just flashes for a second, you may need to run the program in safe mode or as an administrator.
- Download, install, update, and run a scan with MalwareBytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/
- Lastly, disable all non-essential background programs at startup, then test the game. To do this, click on Start > Run/Search > type in MSCONFIG and press enter > click on the Startup tab > uncheck boxes next to programs to disable them (you can enable them again later as desired). Reboot your computer, then launch the game to test. If the problem goes away, gradually turn on each program again one at a time to determine which one is causing the interference.

I have downloaded the installer through the main site as requested, and reinstalled the game to the default folder. Ran the SFC scan as requested, however it did not generated any report files that i am aware of. It ran without interruption for a few minutes before closing by itself.
Downloaded and installed malwarebytes and ran a quick scan. It found and cleaned 11 files that were on the AppData/Roaming folder, so most likely infected temp files.
Disabled all programs on MSCONFIG, so that there were only 8 processes running on the task manager's process tab, all system related. Ran the shortcut on the desktop as administrator, and created a new profile.
Same error =(.

So, anyone has any idea? I'm really dying to play this game, and reading all the readme/guides without being able to play is frustrating, hehe.
I've tried editing the sw.cfg file and set everything to low/0/off. Still no dice.

Lets rule out any kind of codec/sound device problem. Temporarily disable the C-Media sound device in the device manager and stop the two startup entries for that device in MSCONFIG. Restart the computer, verify the audio device is entirely disabled and its background tasks are not running, then launch and test the game for any changes.

Disabled the C-Media audio device and all its entries on MSCONFIG. Restarted the computer and it automatically enabled the USB PnP Sound Device (my headset's USB sound card). Game crashed with the same error.
Re-enabled C-Media audio device and its entries, and did the same as before but with the other device. Game crashed with the same error.
Tried to disable both sound devices and their entries, game didn't even load, giving the Runtime Error "Cannot access sound buffer".

Can you temporarily disable the USB sound device by just unplugging it? I may need to research both devices a bit to see if there is a limitation with one/both that might not be compatible with the sounds required for the game.

Just tried that, i removed it and launched the game. But the error persists.
Also i've copied the game folder to my laptop and ran it on demo mode. It ran without any problems, so i figure that the files were installed properly to my desktop.
Laptop cannot run the game with acceptable performance though, since it's hardware wasn't made to run games xD
EDIT: Also, i have found out that i'm using the wrong driver for my OS. It's difficult to find a 6501 for Windows 7, but i think i found one. Downloading it now.

That's the conclusion I've been coming to in my research as well. Apparently the C-Media 6501 integrated sound system lacks Windows Vista/7 driver support, which could certainly be the cause for such a sound problem in the game. Unless there's a 3rd party driver that would work, there may be no option other than installing a dedicated sound card.

Hmm, i see. Is there a way i can make the game run without sound? Previously when i attempted to run it with no sound device activated it gave me that error i mentioned (something about sound buffer).
In the meanwhile, i'll see if i can update the USB sound card i have and run with it. It's the sound card that came with my SteelSeries 5Hv2 usb headset, which isn't old enough not to have Win7 support. Even though it's also made by C-Media (the USB card, not the headset), it might have proper Windows 7 driver that i haven't bothered to install (up until now i've been running with the default Windows driver).
And thanks for the support so far!

That's a good idea. There will need to be some form of sound device available, so I'd focus on trying to get that USB device to work first. You may need to disable the C-Media sound system in the computer's BIOS to fully shut it down, otherwise it might still interfere with using the other device as the primary sound system.

Nothing worked. I have tried multiple drivers for both cards, and got the most up-to-date driver for my USB soundcard directly from the manufacturer. The file came with three separate drivers for XP, vista and seven, so compatibility issues for this specific soundcard shouldn't be the issue. Also disabled the 6501 on the bios and ran wtihout it, to no avail.
Since nothing of this worked, i will atempt to restore the system backup i've made when i first installed the OS. It's the last idea i have short of a complete system re-format, which will just take longer hehe.

Ha! It worked! I am finally at the main-menu.
So for future reference, to whomever encounters this error, conflicting software might be the issue. Re-formating (or like in my case, restoring a fresh system backup) can and most likely will resolve the problem.
Thanks for the attentio Vice! Se you all out there!
