Hello everyone,
There have been a few unexpexted disconnects in the last week or so. Last nite my IP & cable TV were off for more than 3 hrs.
I have been told by Comcast that they are "upgrading" their system and that there may be more intermittent disconnects.
These "hiccups" in service would not affect normal web surfing, but are hell on the server.
I cannot stop the disconnects, but I will try to be even more watchful and reboot asap.
Comcast claims they "are almost finished", whatever that means!
Anyway, I wanted you all to know what I know and that if you are disconnected mid game, it is likely on this end. Try rejoining every ten min or so and I eill get the server up as quickly as I discover it is down.

Server was down for about 2 hrs. Total cable loss.
Server is now back on line... Time 3:05 PM EST.

;) Yeah, MM ... we can't really blame you for ComCast's poor service. My sister says they really are a crummy ISP.

If you get poor service from ComCast, then it is time to replace your drop cable. That is the cable that runs from your house to the cable box on the street. We started to get poor service and finally they came out to check the drop cable that had been under ground for 15 years and it was bad so they just replaced the cable a few days a go and all is well now....;):cool:

All the cable running from the pole and throughout the house was replaced and fully tested just prior to the release of "Mercenaries", at my own expense.
I suspected a bad modem, but now the server is running fine with no interruptions for several hours. A bad modem or router should have failed by now. I have run all the spyware/malware tests and the server is clean and doesn't even have any programs to run in the background.
Comcast insists the problem is no longer theirs, but I wouldn't put it past them to be "mistaken".
I have been putting a load on the modem now since a total reboot of modem, router & server and nothing has failed for several hours.
I will continue to monitor the server thru the night, but I must sleep some time. Tomorrow should prove it one way or the other.
I rather hope the problem is on my side so it can be corrected. So far, it is a mystery.

MM, you're providing a high standard of service for free for us all and the only thing we can do is only thanks you a lot.

Any problem that may occur (your fault or not as in this case) we can't blame you nor do anything else than support you.

Just a simple thought. Are all you "F" connectors secure, and that there is no earth braiding toughing the centre pin? Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but that a very common problem of signal loss and resulting in disconnects. Equally the tap on the pole to your NTP, which belongs to ComCast could be a bit "dodgey"

In the UK we have a lot of faults in the spring and summer - when the gardeners start their digging and lawn spiking (we run on the street to the house via the from garden).

I considered that, Dengar, but finding it is like finding a bad bulb in a string of Christmas lights. I personally do not have a meter to measure signal strength or connectivity, but I may get a tech out here to ck everything.
Surprisingly everything ran fine thru the nite and is still running now. That's just about the longest period w/o a disconnect I have had, so maybe it will be ok... but I doubt it.
I will continue to closely watch for disconnects and Monday, I will go to the local Comcast center to talk to a local tech and try to get some answers/suggestions.
Doesn't make sence that it will run fine for 24 hrs and suddenly start dropping players every 2 hrs or so.

No it doesn't, which again points to ComCast. Of course we all know that the ISP never makes a mistake.

Ok everyone, here's the latest on the forum disconnects.
The disconnects seem to mimic the "watched pot" syndrome as both Vice & I have spent hours monitoring the server with no disconnects.
Seems like as soon as we turn our back or go out or do something else, we have a disconnect.
Today I visited a Tech shop that services a lot of clients in the area, many of whom have servers and some who have Comcast.
They claim I am not the only one who is having this problem, and it is no end of trouble for them to keep all their customers connected.
They insist the problem lies with Comcast as it is no secret that they are doing upgrades all over Palm Bch County and neighboring areas. For obvious financial reasons, they deny any liability.
The techs suggested I try to wait it out untill the end of May, as that is when they expect Comcast will be finished in this area.
I reluctantly agree and I will do my best to monitor the server and reconnect as soon as I can. Between Vice & myself, we should be able to keep down time to a minimum.
I apologize for any inconvenience and suggest you save often.
Let's see what happens at the end of the month.

If my ISP does network upgrades or maintenance I get a letter by mail stating the exact dates and times of total shutdown or irregular service and these are usually done between midnight and 6 am.

You saying Comcast do not inform their customers about this at all?

They only said they were "upgrading", but never implied there would be any interruptions. I guess they don't consider a momentary "hiccup" as a hardship on anyone.
