Energy Ball?

I came across something called an "Energy Ball" inside an asteroid recently. I locked onto it with my tractor/mining beam, but couldn't figure out what to do with it from there. Are these useful for anything?

The energy "core" you found in the asteroid cave is a hold-over feature from previous games (Renegades and Legends, possibly Arvoch). As I understand it, they (there are two of them) were "capture-the-flag" objects for CvC or team vs team action. Rumor had it that they were to be removed for Mercenary, but there they are.

You probably found the one in Sapphire, in the middle of the high-energy nebula (IIRC). The ball is only half of it ... if you turn and head toward the star after tractoring the ball, you should come across the other half in the middle of the asteroid field. That's where you put the ball. After making your deposit, your fuel gauge should go up a bit.
