Wing Commander Saga close to being finished!!

Anyone familiar with this mod team from Hard-Light Productions?

I played through the campaigns again some time ago as well as a bunch of additional campaign mods that you can download via the Open Source tool.

Yesterday I came across this video.

I am updating my files now, including the Blue Planet War in Heaven mod, cannot wait to play that campaign.

The Freespace Open Installer is a very handy little tool.

I just finished installing all the latest files and a few extra campaigns.

ATM I started the first chapter of "Blue Planet" and so far it is amazing.
New ships mixed with old ships, both fighters, bombers and capital ships.
The new GTVA capital ship is huge, even a Deimos looks like a little freighter next to it.
Installing all the mod files via the Freespace Open Installer will take some time since it's around 5 gigabytes in total. (That's if you download everything)

I played the hard light productions mod little while ago. It really was looking like a really nice game and corrected many of the flaws of the original freespace 2. I can only imagine how good it looks now.

I'm proud enought to admit my reaction was "Huh?" and sit staring like a dumnass before the Sathanas rammed me...

Followed by peals of laughter. Best moment in the game.

He he, yeah, I got rammed the first time too.

This Blue Planet campaign is the unofficial Freespace 3 and so far it is a nice campaign, it picks up after the ending of Freespace 2 and you go back to Earth.

The ships are amazingly well made and now you even can dock inside the fighter bay.

I was wrong about the size, the entire pile of mods are 9 gigabyte in total.

My Freespace 2 folder is now over 10 gigabyte, and the default game was 1.2 a gigabyte install.

This is the United Earth Federation big boy, 3496 meters in lenght.

67 weapon turrets and carrying 16 squadrons in it's fighter bays.

Now that is some nice backup.

Sadly no you cannot land on the planets, this is not an explorer game but a scripted campaign with a really good story.

How is the control of the ships? Any similarity to the EM?

Flight model is like IDS in most cases, although in blue planet I did spot drifting control keys, I have not been able to drift yet so I think not all ships can do this drifting.
Here is a video of a ship can drift.

It's fully joystick+keyboard or HOTAS controlled, using a mouse+keyboard will be a challenge.

I also spotted a cockpit in the 2nd blue planet campaign and an anti bomber formation missile called a slammer.

Slammers? Oh my, that will cause some carnage in the relative small numbers of foes you meet in EM lol.

I bet GORF will like em too since he loves shooting fighters with FT's.

It is possible to add Newtonian Flight to Freespace 2, however this involves manualy editing in a file.

So far I have been clueless about how...............sadly.

I have gotten quite used to this form of flying and I kind of miss it when flying in Freespace 2.

I just played this about a year ago. Beat the first game in the FS2 engine. Great game! Never did beat the second. (Quite tough.

) I bought it at gog. Worth every penny with the open source project!
