wrong hostility?

i was on an escort mission for the navy so i had to protect it from rebel fighter
but for some reason energy company ships are appearing with hostility towards me the capital ship fires at these ships as well but since i was on a mission i had no choice but to fight back

do the energy companies have a connection with the rebels?

When in a Hostile system your considered an enemy of everyone till you prove your loyalty by doing contracts for Navy, Energy and Miners and increase your reputation. Improving your reputation in a system can take a long time....;)

i was in olympus prime where my reputation was fair from the start
my reputation values for all four major factions was average while my reputation with the miners was above average

Maybe a stray missile hit an Energy ship or you shot one by accident?

If you hit friendlies by accident with missiles or gun fire you loose your reputation a bit and they turn hostile on you since you fired on them....:P

I don't think average is good enough to keep you from being shot at by any faction. Factions from different sectors may also see you as hostile during a mission. Beware of all red ships no matter the faction.

Olympus Prime is a Fair system, both Navy and Energy are not hostile to you there, their threat level is yellow for these 2 factions, not red.
