That is awesome and clever if you can get them all behind you like they are right behind you supporting you...LOL...From post: 102814, Topic: tid=7286, author=Nubarus wrote:Behind them? So how do you fight against multiple foes then since you can be 100% sure if you are behind 1 of em the rest is behind you. From post: 102807, Topic: tid=7286, author=yohan89 wrote:Usually I do a manuover to get behind them and stalks them until they're down.

Range or Damage?
For some reason, the best weapons come with a nasty sound effect. I remember the Skyblast B weapon on Freelancer. Most damage with big difference from the second, but the sound was sooooo disturbing!!!!From post: 103054, Topic: tid=7286, author=Nubarus wrote:Well, I forgot to write down one other reason.
I hate the "pee pee" sound the flarebeam makes, it sounds more like a toy gun then a big boy laser cannon.
Ok, nice try. Now... it\'s my turn....

Range or Damage?
I never played Freelancer myself, the game just didn't really did it for me.
When it was first announced and that really great video where the badguys attacked the planet and they launched the sleeperships was really really nice.
But then i saw screens and video's of the actual game I was like, juk, not for me.
I am still beating myself up that I didn't spot these Evochron games sooner............I was lost at the time in a fantasy world throwing spears and yelling at ppl with my Paragon or slicing and dicing with my Warrior...........

DISCLAIMER: not speaking specifically about Evochron, but space warfare in general.
From a purely theoretical point-of-view, as long as accuracy is not a problem, range tends to beat damage because you hit first. Unless, of course you are using a rubber and throwing pieces of folded paper on the target.
Extrapolating to Sci-Fi interplanetary warfare, you'd have giant orbital lasers shooting at each other across the galaxy. Accuracy issues WOULD come into play though, since it would have to be very very precise targeting, since the target would be several light years away.
Unless we resort to something else, like FTL nuke missiles. Oh, the possibilities...
Specifically about Evochron, I don't know if the hits are computed using a simple bounding box (or sphere), or if it uses a simplified version of the ship's mesh, but if it is the former, long range weapons tend to have an easier time around, which could be understood as a game imbalance.
Perhaps you guys could make a tournament and collect stats. if one type of weapon consistently wins over the other, that would indicate some weapon class needs to have its stats tweaked a bit to get better.

Lol yeah, didn't have much time to play space sims lately. My joystick has a dust crust now, yeeew. From post: 103240, Topic: tid=7286, author=thetiebers wrote:WOW, only 4 posts in 2+ years:D. My wife wishes I talked only this much! Good to hear from you Brazilian Joe. Come join us in MP.![]()
Two kids (plus dear wife) tend to crunch our free time...
I haven't got around to buy Evochron Mercenary yet, the current price is a bit above my wallet's sweet spot, especially because I will not open it that much.
My kid is already 6 though, I hope the space-sim bug bites him soon, then I will have an excuse to play more!

That would be cool to get on MP with the kids. I still have a few years before mine gets to that point, but he loves getting on my computer and flying MS Combat Flight Sim (with crashes turned off) and flying around. Just warms the heart

Mercenary was at a reduced price on Impulse and, in a moment of self-indulgence, I purchased it.
Now I have to find some time, probably between baby bottles in the middle of the night, to fire it and fly around.
Probably log in the MP too, see ya.

I fly 90% of the time on my laptop so no Joystick but then again I don't fight PVP that much. From post: 103806, Topic: tid=7286, author=Brazilian Joe wrote:Mercenary was at a reduced price on Impulse and, in a moment of self-indulgence, I purchased it.

Any hints on where to get a Maxim? I'm using a Phantom at the moment but would like to try the differences out! It's been interesting to hear the argument for hitting lightly from a distance as opposed to thumping them from close up
I've not seen it in Pearl, but didn't stop for coffee in any of the systems between Sapphire and Pearl (ship and weapons not up to the locals ideas of greeting strangers). At the moment I'm mapping Pearl to Deneb so nowhere to window shop!

I have seen them in Pearl several times. I've also seen them on the hidden planet at the end of the IMG Quest.

Thanks Dave S - I'll go back to Pearl and have a look around
Are they available in Sol? - I was thinking of having a vacation there
