What joystick are you using with Windows 7?

Post by mstrdrgn »

Getting tired of playing Evochron with a mouse... And joysticks for Windows 7 seem to be pretty scarce. I have a nice USB joystick, a Logitech digital extreme 3D that was great with XP, but there are no Win 7 drivers for it. It sort of works, but it won't calibrate for squat so the ship drifts all over, slowly rolling on it's axis either one direction or the other.

Any suggestions, guys? Don't even want to try multiplayer until I have decent control of my ship.

Your Logitech could probably work fine in the meantime. Try the different sensitivity and deadzone settings in the Options menu. A sensitivity setting of 'Medium' along with a Deadzone setting of 1 or 2 should work pretty well.

I'm using Saitek X52 and it works really nice with EM. System Win7 64bit.

Try to change your "DeadZone" in game. I have it set to 1, but you can increase it and test.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the replies, I'll try playing with the sensitivity and deadzone settings and see if I can get it under control.

The new version of Logitech's Gaming Software is W7 compatible, or so I believe. Works with my Extreme 3D Pro.

Hi

I'm using a Saitek X45 with no problems. I've programmed all the buttons and most of the axes and all the hats and "4 way do dah's". I even use the aux switch for forward and backward burn with IDS turned off, though it takes a delicate touch to get it back to off!

I haven't tried reprogramming all the buttons in all three modes - one set is enough to remember! :P The only thing I haven't found a use for are the two rotary switches on the throttle. :) - they appear on the axis set up screen and I have more axes than I can use - they don't trigger the key screens even though they are described as switches

Maybe you could use a rotary switch to rotate weapon slots?

Congratulations DaveK on using the best controller ever made! I use the rotary switches for strafe left & right and up & down.
I also use the mode switch so I can use the controller as mouse and access all the menus.
At any rate the X45 is the best controller in the Saitek X series. I have 3 of them.

Food for thought!

I wish I had six arms as well! Hostiles would be plasma before they could finish their Gorfburgers and fries :P

Using the Logitech Extrm 3D Pro stick here. Software is compatible w/Win7 Hm Prem 64-bit. Absolutely flawless execution.
