Space Stations in Space

Post by F4SHAD0 »

I've noticed that when I leave one sector with a Space station and enter another with a space station ( while staying upright at all times ), the space stations are all right side up. I just feel it would be more realistic to kinda rotate the stations in random directions on the X, Y, Z planes ( since in space, there is no sure fire way of determining whats up and whats down ). No, they don't have to keep rotating all the time. Like for instance, one station is rotated at 90 degrees, another at 270, another at 147, etc. Their rotation don't have to reflect on the nav map, just how the player see's them.

Off topic: The same is true for the capital ships and carriers. Would like to see this happen with those as well. :D:P

That would complicate automatic jump docking with Stations.....with the right click on Stations. As is it is dificult enough for many to zoom in and out with clicking in the Nav Map. Now if stations are rotated randomly right clicking on them to zoom in and Auto dock can become a problem. I'm used to right clicking on a Station set pitch to 0 and jump directly to Station....;):)

Image Actually, the trade stations do rotate ... along the Y axis. At a rate that simulates the revolution of the earth around the sun ... rotating once every 356.25 days. But "up" always corresponds to the galactic north pole.

Following that proposal, the pitch ladder of your craft should disappear as the instrument wouldn't be able detect the datas needed to diplay any useful info to the pilot.

On that same line.... we may get rid of the compass too... no way to tell..... isn't it?

Looking in that perspective probably a sort of created standard for sensors and travelling that was fictionally put in place by people of the Evochron Galaxy start to make sense. ;)
Best regards

 Actually, Denny, galactic orientation goes a lot further back than Vice. I think some Greeks and a few Italians made a fairly sizeable contribution to that part (and others) of the science we call (in English) Astronomy.

Yup, I know... but I was cutting that short and simple. ;)

No way to manage universe travelling without. You wouldn't be able to find your way to a station nor have a map.
Best regards
