deployable object inside a shield array

Post by DaveK »

Sorry if these have been answered elsewhere but I can't find the answers. I'm finally getting sorted for exploring and for trying MP, having spent ages experimenting with ship-based things to find out what does what and how to turn it on and off! I don't want to spend any more valuable flying time attempting numerous manouvres and combinations of deployables if it actually can't be done. ;)

1: Is it possible to deploy a Fuel Processor inside a Shield Array?

If I deploy the array first the fuel processor creation point is reported as "blocked" even when I fly to another part of the array

If I deploy the processor first, the shield is created so that the fuel processor is just outside it or if I am inside the processor the array construction site is "blocked"

I know that I can blast the arriving AI (Excalibur pack! :P), but that takes time and fuel and I would like to be able to go down to the "auto galley" and have a coffee whilst my tank replenishes :P (or even have a power nap or reread yet again how to survive in combat against more than one hostile and hope that it goes in this time! :P)

Can anything be created inside a shield array?

Can other ships enter my shield array? - AI don't (I'm happy to say!), they just haunt me from outside. In multiplayer can a group share an array? I think that I read that you can have only one of each type of deployable in a sector at the same time so in multiplayer do we need to queue at the fuel processor, repair station etc? Perhaps I have to destruct my array so someone else can create their own to have a break in :P :P :P

Apart from giving you somewhere to rest (whilst having a coffee, say) what do the rest of you use shield arrays for?

2: Am I correct in thinking that deployable objects disappear when you leave the sector? (I can't find them again!) If I build a proper station in SP will it remain there, even between sessions? - 6 million is a lot for a one-use station!, but if I can create my own chain across the void, it will make exploring easier!

3: If I find a system in MP and create a station to mark it (Mercenary version of a dog cocking a leg? :P) I assume that it is permanent until someone blows it up or else it wouldn't be much use as an "already found" sign!!

Thanks in advance :)

deployable object inside a shield array

Post by SeeJay »

Hi Dave.

1. I haven't tried deploying a shield on a fuel processor, but it works to protect a station.
Other Player ships can enter your shield, AI can not. No weapons can be fired in the bubble.
I even trapped anAI ship in my bubble once, lots of fun to watch him try to escape.
I create a bubble when in hostile systems and stay in it while I'm building a station.

2 & 3. Yes, deployable is destroyed when you leave the sector.
What you build in SP stays there and what you build in MP stays there if no destroyed by
another player.

Good luck and hope this helps a bit.;)

deployable object inside a shield array

 Try deploying your shield array by: (1) first deploy your station, (2) without moving forward, keep your nose on the horizon and use thrusters to get above the station ... (3) then try to deploy the shield. It should be large enough to protect you while you do what you need to do (depending on the type station you've deployed).

;) Keep in mind that, yes, only one of each type of deployable objects can be used in any sector at the same time. And that, if everyone leaves the sector, all deployed objects will self-destruct. But it is also possible for another player (not just you) to deliberately scuttle your station at any time.

deployable object inside a shield array

noluck - I've tried going up until the processor was just outside the big green geometric thingy (and not overlapping) and then also moving up as before and then forward a 'til I am over the top of the processor, but the shield doesn't generate, I just get the "position blocked" message! :(

Has anyone, anywhere, anytime actually created a deploy object of any flavour inside a shield array? :D

ps has anyone actually got the tracking signal in Evometrics working? :D

Mu tracking has and is working all the time?

 Well, I did deploy a shield array directly above a trade station ... and the "ball" covered enough of the station to keep me safe. And I've deployed a shield from the center of a refueling station ... and it, too, covered just enough of the station to allow me to refuel while Reds pounded away mercilessly ... but harmlessly.

:) Thanks to both of you . . .

Interesting!!

I'll expend some time playing with the shield array when I get back.
The other thing about Evometrics is that the second tab doesn't recognise my ship and all the dials and bars remain at zero for everything!

However, at the moment I'm between Pearl and Deneb either in "unknown" or "D128" (scooting along the boundary) - could that be making a difference? :P

I usually deploy the shield right into the station bay while docking.... useful, fast and working.
Best regards

Great!

Knowing that it is possible, if not straight forward I've played around a bit. I can't get the fuel processor fully inside the shield, but I can half of it inside, so I can sit in the shielded bit! :D:D:D

It must be Christmas! tracking and ship etails in EvoMetrics, learning how to actually track down a new system and now a safe haven for refuelling!

Thnaks to everyone who has helped with their comments ;)
