I just went the other way, from a Phantom to a Maxim-R. I really appreciate the additional distance. If you stick with the closest target and can keep the distance right below that 700 mark you pretty much only have to take care of the missles coming in.

Keep in mind to that a Weapons Ops at 100% skill and loyalty increases the weapons range and accuracy....With my Banshee I can hit the enemy at 650 units distance which is close to 700....;)

I like the banshee too but switched to the Maxim for the higher rate of fire.

Now that we have the IDS multiplier a Banshee can be a nice gun since you're able to keep up close and persona with anything that moves.

The maxim however offer a longer range and higher hit chance for those not so agile or well trained in dogfights.

I find the fusion/maxim a proficient weapon combo but I guess I'll be trying another run on the banshee.

It all come down to your playstyle and your abilities.
Best regards

Many will go for the maxim, me? I like the phantom, simply put if you're making sure each shot counts you'll do more damage.
For me the range isn't a big factor, I want to be well in range before I start firing. The Maxim-R is a good gun, and one I preferred back in the ol' days of alliance and renegades.

Banshee? yeah I like the banshee ( really, really, REALLY ), But I also like blowing up capital ships, and on that it fails ( fail, epic) and for that reason I don't use it. For PvP though it is the best gun bar none ( AkA if you are out there for a bit of PvP use the banshee. 'nuff said )

Seriously?
Did Vice make them easier to take out, or are you using missiles too.

Nope, it's true. I take them out only with guns and lasers as
well.;)

yeah, its possible to take out a capital in a ferret with just guns ( I can't remember the name of the basic civ frames, but it can be done in them too), but I was questioning the time maars quoted, if its true the cap's are much easier to take down than before.

Is That a Mission cappy or just a single cappy out in space? On the missions the freindlys are firing at it too, so it helps a lot.

That is Mission Caps......It takes practice. I target one particular equipment of the Cap, ussually the Engine and I approach it from its Six and get very close and note where the missiles from the rear of the cap ship are coming from and target that area which is the same aproximate area of the Engine. I match the speed and stay Stationary at its six firing lasers and cannons till shield is low then switch to cannons only and keep firing till Cap is destroyed and use cms for the incoming missiles I miss with cannons....Make sure you have the Cannon Relay System and the Weapons Booster that increase your firing frequency and keeps your weapons cool....;)

One question: It is a fact that the beam's weapon range is linked to the particle's weapon range that you have equipped. Suppose you do not equip a particle weapon. What would be the range of the beam? Just for curiosity, I know that you cannot play without a particle weapon.
Ok, nice try. Now... it\'s my turn....

I lost my Particle beam the other day and I don't know how and my Laser was firing but sadly to say I did not pay attention the exact range. I do recall it being about 500 or so.

 You might try the laser on an asteroid and see at what range (if any) you get the sparkle effect.

I don't think the laser will have any affect on an asteroid at any range
