Also, there are other uncharted systems not shown on the map.
Space is vast and the game reflects this.

Thank you so much! that is the info that I was not getting. I thought that that was how jumpgates worked but I wasnt sure.

In most space games, jumpgates are the only way to get around ... because you go from one map to another ... but none of the maps are actually joined together. Or, instead of a jumpgate, you warp from one disjointed map to another. Mercenary, on the other hand, is one gigantic, put-together map ... in three dimensions. You can keep going in one direction, without jumping or using gates, and never find yourself back where you started.

Yeah, it is. I doubt even ST Excalibur will have that capability.

Just wanted to say that this tutorial works 100%.

I started mining in a level 1 ship, after 2 days of playing and following EXACTLY what the OP said, I am in a tricked out Hunter with 8 Hardpoints. Between mining drops and Torp runs, because I never travel empty, I am making 10 mil roundtrip.

A round trip takes me 10-15 mins, tops.

It seems most of the tutorial and guide videos are old enough to be all locked down in private mode

Even SeeJays site and those videos are all private. Alas, I shall search youtube in general separate of the forum here and hope I can figure some of this out.

Sweet! How different is EM1 vs EM2? Is training video 5 on EM2 from 2 years ago going to help me with EM1 shipyard stuff?

EM2 is expanded quite a bit from EM1. Yes, the videos recorded a few years ago are still very current for the base rules and gameplay options in any 2.X version of the game.

I often find myself virtually anywhere else than where I wanted to be . . . is that the same thing?

But more to the point - there are a lot of places to find and visit that you can't use gates to get to . . . and by 'a lot' I mean 'a lot'

If you get hold of the Hints&Tips Guide from SeeJay's site, near the beginning of the Guide there is a list (with links) of a lot of player produced vids . . .

Be careful though there are lots of spoilers in the Guide (though well signposted and deliberately hard to read 'accidentally') - but there are also lots of discussions, tutorials and advice (and Hints&Tips!)

I know the original poster, Esben, is not playing anymore (or at least not posting on the forum) but I send my thank you to him for his great guide that made me start my journey as a mercenary. Thos guide is still accurate and useful today.
